Yes, but: Most people, but especially those who are parents and cargivers, are usually upset when they see a child being treated inappropriately. There are a few bad apples out there, but if they weren't upset by what happened, they wouldn't really take the time to bother posting, would they?
It has to do with the sightings recently. Two in particular I saw someone attacking the op for no reason. One attacked an op for sitting at a park for 45 min....why is that a crime? And in another the op was attacked for taking a child to a park that someone deemed too sick to be there. In both instances the op's actions had no bearing on the sighting and yet some people decided to attack the op rather than admit the nanny was in the wrong.
The problem is, it is so easy to be judgmental from behind a computer screen. I'll admit it, I'm always quick to judge too. But we have to remember, what people report is just a tiny snippet of what actually happened. If someone saw something that they think merits a report, we should trust them.
But, on the other hand, a "bad nanny" is highly subjective. What could shock some people can be something others would find totally acceptable. I think in these cases, we should let the parents (who these sightings are for, of course) use their own judgment as to what actions to take against the nanny.
It would also be helpful if people doing the sightings were reminded to keep emotion and conjecture out of it. Just report the facts, not what you think is happening.
I am tired of being attacked by people who are enjoying picking a bone with me to entertain themselves. One person told me I wasn't smart because of the way I handles my personal belongings in NYC! (Hello? I live here? and I have never had anything stolen? But a nanny helped herself to my things, so isn't that a legit sighting?)
Why should I post just to put up with the aggravation of a few people who enjoy feeling superior (with anonymity!)
You want my postings? (and trust me, as a SAHM i see them all the time) then keep my personal choices out of your tirade.
NYCMOM, I would hate to see it come down to deleting comments because we want everyone here to say what they feel but the Sightings are imperative to keeping this Blog alive. We appreciate those that take the time to send them in and we are not going to put up with them being personally attacked anymore.
There are plenty of other Posts for Readers to set on fire! We want those that Submit bad Nanny Sightings to be respected because you are the reason for this Blog and we need you to be the voice for those children that are being abused or neglected.
sighting submitters aren't always kind.

ReplyDeleteThanks and I'll give it my best shot! ;-)
Hopefully the people who are in the mood for a tirade can transfer their fire power to serious offenses...
