I was walking along 7th Ave. on Friday around noon when I came to the intersection of Union Street. Suddenly a little boy about 3 to 4 years old, riding a scooter quite fast, came rolling off the sidewalk into the street. Just by luck no car was coming. A woman who appeared to be his Nanny went into the street and carried the boy back to the sidewalk and put the boy into the empty stroller she was pushing. She was a black woman around 40-45. I think she may have been wearing a red hat and dark coat. The woman didn't say anything to the boy that I heard and they continued along 7th Ave. in the direction of Flatbush Ave. I am hoping that the parents find out about this before something terrible happens to their child
Oh, the scooters in Park Slope! All the little ones want to ride them! And they are SO dangerous in such a busy-traffic area! Countless times I've seen a near-accident because of the bad combo of hilly streets, fast scooters and busy intersections. You might want to add more details to your post, though, so the parents could actually recognize the child/nanny pair...without more details, you could be talking about half the kids in Brooklyn.
ReplyDeletei'll bet the parents tell the boy he can ride his scooter on the sidewalk: they don't care that it is dangerous, the nanny is the one who has to follow orders.
ReplyDeleteWell obviously the nanny had given him benedryl causing him to become sleepy on his scooter and roll right out into the road. Then she grabbed him, plopped him in his stroller and he slept for the rest of the day. You see, eventually little one's bodies don't react immediately to the benedryl any more and we need to kick it up a notch by tuckering them out on a scooter after giving them their special "juice." We all do it, except I prefer to put my charges on tricycles after drugging them....less risk of tipping over and getting questionable scrapes and cuts. Geez people, we have to get the kids to sleep somehow.
ReplyDeleteHA! Benedryl, that made my day.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I don't like letting my charges ride their scooters near traffic. Their parents are awesome, but they let the kids run across the street and ride their scooters too far away. The kids are pretty good about knowing that when their with me, their nanny, the rules are a bit tighter.
I don't think this warrants a posting. Just yesterday, I was taking my first grade charge to school, and he almost walked into traffic because he was talking to his friend. I grabbed him by the shoulder just in time. Should I have been reported for that?
I agree with Itwasbenedryl. Although I prefer to shout "die!" at my charges before I drug them.
ReplyDeletebenedryl and die you should come hang out with me sometime while our charges are drugged up. I like to drink and text alot on my phone while they're unconscious
ReplyDeleteIts true. I watched two little boys before. And the mom was like oh they can ride their bike all around this area. Its okay.
ReplyDeleteHere I am about to have a heart attack anytime a car came by. They didnt' listen they would go charging down those big hills like nothing
