nanny sighting logo I saw your nanny this afternoon. She was wearing black knee length boots, a long grey & white sweater, black leggings and a black baseball cap. She was white and wore sunglasses. She was pushing your child in an umbrella with a solid red canopy, red print material body, red wheels and chrome frame. The child was wearing a kango and had curly dark hair. I think the child was a girl, but cannot be sure. The child was wearing a blue wool jacket and had a white blanket over his/her legs. He/she looked to be 2ish as he/she was straining to look around at the nanny and was verbal. The nanny was smoking. How many of you are going to say this isn't a big deal? She was smoking marijuana. Grass. Ganja. An illegal substance while on the job. Some of you are going to ask how I am so sure she was the nanny. I turned around at one point to pass her by in the opposite direction and she was on the cell phone. She was telling her employer - listen up if this is you- you will recognize this call- exactly where she was and that she had made an appointment for Devon at 5:30 PM. She made further conversation about planning to meet her employer at the Dr's office with Devon and and head home from there.
The nanny was smoking the substance from a rolled joint, which she held between her thumb and pointer finger. She saw me look straight at it like "what the hell" and she looked back at me like, "and?" Is this an emergency? No. Maybe the parent even knows. But if not, hopefully she will know now.

  1. It sounds like the baby was a boy. Who names a girl Devon and dresses them in blue, with a red canopy stroller?

As far as the weed goes- I would definitely want to know that. Thank you for the posting and I hope the parent sees it.

  2. Awful, just awful. And to talk on the phone while smoking marijuana... that's just wrong. What a horrible nanny. I hope the parent sees this.

    Good sighting, OP!

  3. That's so brazen! To be smoking weed while at the same time on the phone with the parents?!

  4. *ahem*
I don't dig smoking at all but just so you know.. a lot of people roll their own cigarettes to smoke. And it is just that, a cigarette. I've got two coworkers of mine that do, it's much much cheaper than buying packs of cigarettes.

  5. Well - even if it was a rolled cigarette (tobacco).... she still should definitely not have been smoking around the baby.

  6. Shannon-
and lightning? The way you love me is frightening?
haha. Sorry. I've been singing that song in my head since reading your comment.

I just have a hard time believing it was marijuana.. Who on earth would smoke so out in the open like that? You'd have to be an idiot, thonkinh getting stoned in public could end well.

  7. Some of you are just horrible. STOP insinuating that the OP's/Authors are brainless idiots. Who doesn't know the difference between marijuana smoke and ciggarette smoke? Really, the intelligence of some of these comments- it makes me want to pull my hair out.

  8. Yeah--- the real point the long and short of it is SMOKING on the job! I grant they *could* have been home rolled tabacco cigs... and as for the smell difference I have smelled clove cigs and thought they smelled like the ganja... BUT EVEN IF MY EMPLOYER WERE TO SAY GO AHEAD AND SMOKE IT IS STILL F ING RUDE! I grew up with smokers it is rude... rude rude to smoke near or around non smokers that cant get away from it. UGH. Im so pissed....

  9. I did NOT say that smoking was alright, I find it tasteless and trashy to be honest. This woman should be reprimanded (if not fired) for smoking around a child, definitely. I am simply saying that marijuana is illegal, giving huge black marks on your record and any chance of a background checked position again.
It isn't a tiny detail, I just wouldn't want to be labeling someone a druggie unless I was sure of it.

  10. I'm sorry but your just dumb. Why would you post this? you have no idea if it was pot or not. your a really bad person to try to discredit her like that. What is wrong with you? I think I would have some serious issues with my children being watched by you actually!

  11. Oh and this is a effing stupid site. Ya'll are lifeless dumb b**tches. If you're such great parents you should be doing the research on your own nanny yourself. I can't believe this site. Half this shi* is made up I'm sure. Get a life and stop trying to RUIN other people's

  12. I'm a nanny. And if I saw a nanny smoking pot around a child, I would tell the parents. If I didn't know who the parents were, I would post here. Why is it wrong to expect nanny's not to smoke illegal drugs (or at all, but I digress) while on the job?

My husband is a teacher. He doesn't get to smoke on the job either. Or do you think that should be a okay?

She was walking around smoking pot? What is this Amsterdam? I hope mom sees this. Any kind of smoking is disgusting and rude!

  14. Ro, I agree with you. I have noticed lately that the OP's are getting slightly defensive in their Submissions because they just know there will be a hail of fire from the readers. They are feeling like they have to explain themselves because they know it's coming... and they shouldn't have to.

  15. Cigarette smoke and marijauna smoke smell NOTHING alike. At all. If the OP knows, she probably knows.

But wow, she was just walking around in public smoking pot? That just seems almost hard to believe... but again, if the OP knows... she probably knows.

  16. I've seen quite a few people smoking in public--especially on college campuses. Granted, I live in Denver and it's legal to possess marijuana here, but its still not that rare of an occurance. And pretty sure most people under thirty can identify weed by the smell, or the way she was holdin it, etc. Either way-- weed or hand-rolled cigerette-- it is COMPLETELY inappropriate to be smoking around a child. Good posting!

  17. How do you know it was weed? Some people roll their cigs, and btw weed smoke is not as toxic as cig smoke... so if she was smoking the gov't's taxed poison thats ok, but smoking weed isn't? Maybe she should have been drinking instead... thats legal too.

Weed should be legalized and people should learn more about it. You don't hear on the news that weed caused a husband to beat his wife, but alcohol does.

  18. Phoenix-- While I totally agree with you that weed should be legalized (mainly since it has been shown to be less harmful than drinking or smoking cigarettes, none of these three activities are okay while providing care...
But it should be interesting to see the anti-cannabis flames...

  19. Believe it or not, some people don't worry about cigarette smoke around children. I personally am against it, but I've interviewed for positions before where the parents openly smoke in their home while holding their children. As much as we all dislike it, it happens. Perhaps in this case the parents deemed it okay if she was outside. Who knows? That is assuming it was not marijauna. Which I am curious to know if the OP was close enough to smell it? Because hand-rolled do look the same. My grandfather still hand rolls his cigarettes, and they could be mistaken for weed.
But since I am not the OP, I'm going to take her word for it and say that the nanny is definitely in the wrong and is plain crazy for being it public like that.
And Stormy, why are you here, and taking the time to comment, if this is such a bad site?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually, yes, alcohol is far more dangerous than weed. Still, weed impairs you severely and no sane adult should be smoking it in front/while caring for a child. Just as irresponsible as drinking alcohol while caring for a child.

  21. While I think smoking, like many others is tasteless and tacky while on the job, especially with a small child, I can't believe that in such a public place someone would be that incredibly stupid to smoke a joint?

Why didn't you call the police? I mean obviously there is great concern over the child being around such a substance and this was clearly illegal and could not easily been mistaken for something else, as you said.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've lived in NYC for less than a year, so someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but in my experience, it is not that unheard of for people to smoke weed in public here. I smell it all the time. And I imagine if the OP was close enough to see it, she was also close enough to smell it.
I would want to know if my nanny was smoking (anything) on the job. The parents may have okay-ed it, but we don't know, thus the post. I can't believe how many people are blaming the OP

    ReplyDelete
  23. It could have been a cigarette unless you smelled weed but even then as a parent I would want to know. I do not think kids should be around smoking at all, especially by their nanny and most parents have rules about that :)

  24. Stormy: I normally don't pic fights with people on this site out of respect to other posters, MPP and Jane, yet I just want to let you know that I am J's nanny, I teach preschool FT in addition to being a nanny, and you want to call someone a bitch? Look in the mirror and tell us what you see. I have seen parents come into daycare to pick up their children with red, bloodshot eyes, glassy vision, slow movements, and only you wouldn't be able to tell if the parent was high. Just because you are a lazy sloth of a nanny who approves of this careless behavior of a nanny you really should think about your life and choices before you insult the rest of us.

  25. "And to talk on the phone while smoking marijuana... that's just wrong"

That cracks me up. Like..."Walking and chewing gum at the same time...that's just worng."

I dunno. I'm just being silly...

  26. "Who doesn't know the difference between marijuana smoke and ciggarette smoke?"

Well someone knows how to party....ro is it?

I am quite sure there are people who don't know what marijuana smoke looks like, especially with all the squares on this site.
