Hi, I am a Mom of three. I hired a Nanny named Samantha ******. She usually works in Arizona, Colorado Springs and Alaska. She was wonderful the first few weeks and than slowly but surely she disrupted my entire household including my marriage to my husband. She broke our brand new dishwasher, burned the counter top, ruined all the pans and shrunk nearly all the childrens clothes. She is immature and a large gossip. She talks on her cell phone the minute you leave and stops tending to the children. She is constantly on the phone or talking and not working.
She states she ran a childcare center yet every time my husband and I went out she had never changed the baby. She was verbally abusive to my twins. My daughter is Autistic and would say, "Sam why are you leaving?" Her response, "I have a life."
When she left my husband and I were arguing over her care. She stated she was a surrogate Mother..lol.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the reason we hire a Nanny --- is to tend to our children while we work????
I'd hardly call telling a child that you are leaving the child's home because you have a life "abusive." Perhaps your precious one needs to know that not everyone's life revolves around her! And yes, I read that she's autistic, but "autistic" covers a broad spectrum. If she is socially engaged enough to wonder why nanny is leaving, I don't see how it is bad for her to know that yes, nannies DO have lives outside their jobs!
ReplyDeleteIf you paid a good wage, you wouldn't be in this situation. If I had an autistic child, be damned sure my child would have a super stellar, certified, sane, bankable nannies.
ReplyDeleteYou people who cut corners and then cry foul. What is it you expect?
I think some of you are being too hard on OP. She obviously did some checking. She knew quite a few things about this Nanny's past. And how do you know she wasn't paid a fair wage?
ReplyDeleteEvery time someone reports a bad Nanny, the whole lot of you go nuts.
I am curious as to how long you waited before you fired her. Not changing diapers would cause me to fire her on the spot.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Maggie - where do you get that she paid less than a fair wage? Or that she didn't check? I just thought her "emotionally abusive" comment was over the top, and frankly it made me wonder a bit about her other observations of the nanny's "shortcomings."
ReplyDeleteMaybe if she wasn't so busy doing your dishes, cleaning your countertops, and doing your laundry, she would have had a little more time for your children.
ReplyDeleteYEEK! You guys are being really rough on the OP. Did you not read the part where she said the nanny was on her cell phone all day neglecting the children? AND last time I checked it's in most nannies job description to make the childrens meals and do their (the childrens) laundry. Don't even get me started on not changing the kids diaper. It clearly sounds like an incompetent nanny. Glad you fired OP!
ReplyDeleteCorrection..
ReplyDeleteGlad you fired *her* OP.
Not changing a diaper is immediate grounds for termination. Why do people let this go on for more than a day or two?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you came in contact with this nanny, but in all fairness, I wouldn't even know how to break a dishwasher if I tried!! Don't you just put dishes in, and turn the dial?
And the only countertops I know of that can be burned are cheapshit formica counter tops.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the nanny was not used to such pitiful conditions?
So sorry Jojo Bear but you're wrong. Marble and granite countertops can definitely be burned, although it's much harder to do than burning a laminate. Maybe you're just not used to being around the higher end stuff.
ReplyDeleteI place everything off the stove top and out of the oven right on my marble counter top. Nothing happens.
ReplyDeletePerhaps you have been scrimping on your countertops, cookware and nannies.
Buy American.
"While it is true that marble can withstand extremely high heat and pressure, it is still not advisable to place hot pans and pots on a marble countertop because they can alter and damage its surface. The inner core can remain the same and undisturbed, but the surface can form unwanted patterns or be left with scars and burn marks."

Oh jojo, stop being so insulting. It's really pathetic. I'm not the OP and I don't have a nanny. I've never scrimped on anything in my life. Fortunately, I don't have to.
Does your nanny really need to be COOKING? Why do people feel the need to pile on as many tasks as they can think of? Just hire a nanny to WACTH YOUR KIDS and you'll be amazed with the results!
ReplyDeleteShades of Grey-
ReplyDeleteKids need to eat during the day, no? The beauty of watching kids in their own home is being able to provide them with all the comforts that come with it. One of that being a hot meal at lunch time. What kid or adult doesn't love a warm bowl of soup on a cold winter day? Cooking shouldn't be considered a chore.
What people should be worried about is the fact that she was on the phone 24/7 and her failure to change a dirty diaper. She should have been fired the first time you saw any of this, and not waited for things to get worse.
ReplyDeleteAsking a Nanny to COOK? Oh my god, how abusive and demeaning, actually expecting someone to work for their wages. None of the so-called "high-end, oh so experienced nannies" I have employed, except for one, could ever have cut it in an outside job where they were actually expected to WORK, PAY TAXES, and DO EVERYTHING LEGAL THE EMPLOYER ASKS FOR THAT IS REMOTELY JOB-RELATED. Guess what, I don't want someone whose main qualification is that they "get down on the floor and play with the kids" like so many of these delusional nannies brag about. My kids don't WANT to do stupid little crafts all day, nor make endless trips to the zoo or childrens' art gallery. We do want someone who can feed them lunch and dinner, clean up after the meal and interact appropriately with them. I would love to see some statistics on how many nannies are in this job because a) they can not function in a professional environment with other adults or b) they have such delusions of grandeur they have been fired from other type jobs wherein they thught they were above a reasonable request. Why are the rich bitches you work for always oh so stupid and the nannies oh so brilliant? Why aren't you in charge if you are so smart?
ReplyDeleteSomeone needs to get down on the floor and play with your children. Personally, it's not my thing. The nanny does many of the things I don't enjoy such as museums, crafts and parks, which I just loathe.
ReplyDeleteAs for cooking, cleaning and scrubbing the pots and pans, we have a housekeeper for that.
Channel No. 5, I think you're wearing a "designer impostor" fragrance because you reek of subterranean middle class blues.
No offense, of course.
If you can't afford a high end nanny, you can't afford a high end nanny. No sweat. Just suck it up. Did you know that you can drive back and fourth in front of home depot and pick up day laborers? They don't speak English and I know they would have no use for getting down on the floor and playing with a child, but I bet they'd shine the shit out of your cast iron pots, leave your windows streakless and cook up a mean carne asada.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I would self describe myself as high end but I will say this, I don't clean. I make lunch and snacks. I don't do dinner. I don't drag the recyclables out the curb, I don't vacuum, mop or scrub the toilets, I don't make beds or change bedding, except in an emergency. I do the children's laundry and help keep the children's rooms organized.
ReplyDeleteMy preference is to work for families that don't scrimp, cut coupons or try and barter.
Fortunately, I live in an area where Hedge Funds rule supreme and money flows through faucets with great ease and pressure.
channel #5,
ReplyDeleteI havea degree in Early Childhood Education. I taught second grade for two years and made thirty two thousand dollars my second year. I now make 80,000 plus a year as a nanny.
That's why I work as a nanny.
Since you asked.
Child care is hardly rocket science. Boring at times, rewarding at times. It is one of the easiest jobs I have ever had, much better than using my R.N. license. However, just like when I took care of patients, I consider my job the entire job that needs done and I do whatever it takes. Don't SAHM usually fix their kids lunch and clean up the dishes without wanting a medal for it? How can you take a "break" unless someone comes in to relieve you? Breaks, set hours and strict lists of duties are such a secretarial pool way of thinking - oh, its not my job!!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, it is Chanel No. 5, not Channel, or Channel #5. It is a fabulous perfume, no matter what your socio-economic class.
Well, well, well,
ReplyDeleteI think getting down on the floor with the kids is a very important part of a nanny's job, after all, they are kids, and that's where they are, on the floor.
They also love arts and crafts, and museums, but I have to say that I do prepare the meals for the children (an only the children) lunch and dinner and it's a very important part of my job since my degree is in Nutrition.
The parent's are very thankful for that.
I also change the children's bedlinen- because I do the children's laundry.
I never vacuum, cook for parents, do their laundry, take out garbage, or any of those other things that some nannies seem to saddle themselves with.
One of the most important parts of my job, second to their health is their education, and the rest of my time is taken up with research, preparation or activities for that.
No one can pay me personally to clean their homes. It is a myth that nannies are nannies because they can't do anything else.
It is a great job, that pays well and is very fulfilling.
Anyway, I'm not sure I am ready to believe this Op and her perception of the matter at hand.
It does not make sense that a nanny would not change a diaper, and still keep her job, and what of the rashes that would have been on the tushies?
I'm afraid I can't take your word for it when you say she shrunk nearly all your kids clothes, talk about a drama queen, you sound like someone who makes a mountain out of a molehill ,and a person who blames another person for everything wrong in their life.
What kind of clothes are these?
No one, except you and your husband is responsible for your ailing marriage, and I'd bet the dishwasher had been in use before the nanny got there. You do know, that it's not the last one who used it is responsible for breaking it. I guess she also finished your milk, because she was the last one to drain the jug?
Ruined ALL the pots and pans? who is she? Amelia Bedelia?
I can believe the cell phone story because a lot of people talk on their phones even whilst working, but you except her to be engaged in work every waking moment?
As for the gossip bit, isn't that what you are doing now? I mean, you even put her name in print for what is really hearsay. I find that unbelievable.
I cannot even believe that people here bought this hook line and sinker. I am not saying you're lying about having a nanny that did not meet your needs, that is obvious, what I am saying is that perception is sometimes far removed from reality.
"Chanel" is pretty funny and desperate in a sad, pathetic sort of way. She'll never get it, and no manner of explaining what we could do in the "real" world will change her small minded attitude. It does beg the question since she's asking about why nannies aren't in charge, why in the hell is she not caring for her own children? After all, why isn't she smart enough to be in charge of it all, including her childrens daily care?
ReplyDeleteEm,
ReplyDelete"Amelia Bedelia"!!!
I am laughing out loud.
I had forgotten about her.
Good one.
Lol
ReplyDelete"Ruined ALL the pots and pans? who is she? Amelia Bedelia?"
ReplyDeleteToo funny!
Nice to see the 'other side' of Em.
Hey, I have many dimensions.
ReplyDeleteI actually laugh a whole lot.
You just happened to catch me on two threads where I was discussing 2 different topics I'm not only passionate about, but know a lot about.
No one I know, either my employers or friends, have ever had this sort of nanny drama, and it's because they pay a decent wage, interview properly and call references.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, how does one BREAK a dishwasher? I mean, think about that. And in all my 30 years on this earth, I don't think I have ever SHRUNKEN a piece of clothing. Clothes these days don't shrink. Ridiculous posting.
ReplyDelete"Ruined ALL the pots and pans? who is she? Amelia Bedelia"
ReplyDeleteThat was priceless.
I didn't want to be too hard on OP, but her post gives the impression that she is more concerned with her pots and pans, countertops, dishwasher and clothes than she is with her children. The lack of diaper changing is mentioned as an afterthought, and I must have missed where she described any abuse that had taken place. And how exactly does spmeone "ruin" pots and pans? Uses them, so they are not sparkling and shiny anymore??
ReplyDeleteShe does not sound like a very good care provider but seriously, if a baby's diaper was never changed during an 8 or 9 hour shift, that should not be allowed to happen more than once. And a third persn cannot "disrupt" a marriage unless the marriage already has problems.
Chanel #5,
ReplyDelete"None of the so-called "high-end, oh so experienced nannies" I have employed, except for one, could ever have cut it in an outside job where they were actually expected to WORK, PAY TAXES, and DO EVERYTHING LEGAL "
So you have had several nannies you paid off the books? In that case, they were not "high-end nannies", and you are breaking the law.
Evidently, part of her job was cooking? She must have used a lot of pots and pans preparing your meals since they were ALL ruined. Sounds like she tried to clean up her cooking messes since she somehow ruined your dishwasher as well. Seems like she wasn't on the phone ALL the time...
ReplyDeleteWhy is jo jo bear such a beyotch?
