87th and York Ave - UES

Received Tuesday, October 21, 2008.
nanny sighting logo I am feeling outraged as I report this:
About 30 minutes ago, at the corner of 87 St. and York Ave, my husband witnessed a Jamaican (?) nanny, with braided hair and a very thick accent, reckless actions.
She was walking towards him, on the cell phone, with a very young child (still with a pacifier in her/his mouth), very fair complexion, almost pale, and blue eyes.
My husband saw a huge bump on the side walk ahead of her and tried to warn the nanny, who was carelessly talking on the phone. She pushed ahead the stroller with force and the baby fell off, face first onto the pavement. The child was not strapped to the stroller.
The baby was bleeding profusely all over the delicate skin of his/her face. The nanny got on the phone again as my husband questioned her, saying "I hope you are calling 911 and not your agency!" (My husband did not have his cell phone with him)
More people gather around and somebody called 911. Within minutes an ambulance came, as the baby cry hysterically, bleeding profusely, the nanny kept saying "Don't cry, don't cry.
I am posting to make sure that this horrible, careless monster does not twist the facts and lie to the parents or the authorities. She caused this baby's injuries, possibly permanent damage, and should go to jail.

  2. wow, this is horrible. she should be fired for this at the most. at no time no matter what age, should a child NOT be strapped in the stroller if indeed in said stroller. A cell phone is a horrible distraction. I only just stopped using my blue tooth because of the dangers to myself. Sometimes I hardly use the phone outside. If it is important it can wait. I hope that poor baby is okay. So sorry a picture of nanny could not be posted though..
    A CONCERNED NANNY.....

  3. OMG!! That is HORRIBLE BEYOND WORDS. I too hope she goes to jail for child endangerment.
What kind of A-S does crap like this?
Yes I know on your face there is a lot of capillaries that cause more bleeding than any other part of your body...which would explain the profuse bleeding.
There is no excuse for this one.
    None whatsoever!
    And I'm not taking back I said she was a n A-s!

What is she was crossing the street and hit a bump in the road?
I work one block away and I know that busy street.
    I feel like crying.
My baby fell in the park once and bruised that skin on her upper lip between her nose and lip and I couldn't stop bawling because of all the bleeding.
I was so sorry for her.
I wish I knew the child/nanny so I could leave a note somewhere so the mom could log onto this site.
I am so sorry for the baby.
One time my boyfriend who works in a hospital told me a story like that, when this girl came in carrying a baby in a car seat and all of a sudden the newborn baby fell out and I was mortified! Would it kill you to buckle up the baby?
Some people are so lazy beyond words or excuses.
I don't know what to say.
I hope the authorities get involved in this one.

  4. Poor little thing! How horrible I don't know what it is about people who don't know how to talk on a phone and pay attention. i am able to use my cell and still keep my step-son in sight and out of danger. Man my step-son used to be a bolter. he would just walk into the street! I was able to be on my phone talking to his dad, watch for cars, yank him out of the street and remind him to look both ways without missing a beat.
I just don't understand how a cell phone can block people out of the world completely. I hope this baby is okay... but it doesn't sound like it. she should get fired! What a mean woman.

I see you are super mom. And that you give more value to your stupid cell phone than to your step son. When spending time with him, which is more important, him or the cell phone. I think the cell phone wins since you cant bear to part with it for a short period of time to spend quality time with him. I mean hey look at the speed of a bullet you are there to grab him from traffic right. Hooray for you.

  6. a park slope nanny:

I was talking to his dad to tell him I was on the way home and then I hung up the phone. i was simply stating I don't know what kind of idiot can't notice their surroundings while they are on the phone. In no way was i implying that I am supermom! I am in fact not a real mother. I don't like to have people try to imply my thoughts in what I was doing on the cell phone in the first place. Picking up your phone to say hi I will be right there, I am coming home with your kid. and he runs into the street and I can grab him and teach him right from wrong, does not make me super mom.... it makes me an attentive human being who can do two things at once.

I am sorry you can't do that.

Shouldn't you be nannying your charges now instead of parking on the computer?

  8. That question gets old fast!!Not all nannies are slugging away at the keyboard while the kids are running amuck.

Some could ask where your kids are too cm??

  9. What did cali say that was so mean spirited? She was asking a simple question. I don't think she was the one here who started being a bitch.... watch how to talk to other people. Cali asked a question I found no crass in her statement and here you are calling her a bitch! wow....

too much time spent on you already.
    Peace, love and light!

  10. Yep. I was wondering when all the niceties on here would end. It's been a long time coming for some people to get out some aggression.

    Let the games begin!

  14. Apparently some nannies have days off. Some nannies are people. Some nannies are way better than the parents on this list serve. And some nannies have way more class than the two above posters who attacked me without reason.

I am one of those nannies and damn proud of it.

And Im quite sure you are jealous of all my attributes...

  15. Oh my gosh--- all I can think is how scary this must have been for the parents. I hope and PARY TO GOD that they are ALL safe ans sound at home tonight, with this simply a bad day--- instead of the beginning of a bad series of events.

BTW-- I don't want to judge, but how did we go from posting about this poor baby and his/her careless nanny to hurling insults at one another?

  16. Lovethegirls...
I was just thinking the same thing! lol

  17. It was a careless accident! I don't think that means she should go to jail! I often push the little one without strapping him in. If we accidentally hit a bump, I don't think he would fall out. If he did, that would be a bad accident! I wouldn't want someone calling me a monster or saying I should go to jail. Think about what the heck you are saying and don't just spout off because you are angry!

  18. Not to justify this nannies reckless actions, but at the PA Renaissance Festival this past Sunday, I watched parents push stoller down a down a gravel path and the baby fell out face first, onto the gravel, scraping her entire face. They put the baby, who was around 18 mos old, back in the stroller and did the same thing with the same results DUH! The poor child's face was all scraped and once they calmed her down they put her back in the stroller and amazingly wanted to start pushing her without strapping her in AGAIN! Of course my husband had a word with them, offering to help them figure out the way the safety straps worked if it were too difficult for them to figure out! Of course, clearly they didn't have a brain cell to share between them, so the sarcasm was lost on them. They did use the safety straps after he spoke to them about it.

  19. Did your husband stick around to make sure the paramedics knew how the baby got injured?

  20. since when is it a bad thing to talk on the phone while pushing a stroller? i would think most of us do it and babies don't just go flying out onto sidewalks very often. Is there more to this or what?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thats not the point. It wasn't the idea she was talking on the phone. It was because she didn't BUCKLE the child in the stroller.

  22. Angry much

I hope you are not a childcare provider. Or even a mother.

  23. This is a horrible, sad incident...but JAIL!? I don't think she should ever work with children again, but..again, jail?
Not buckling the child in was pure stupidity. But I doubt it was intentional or malicious. There should be consequences, but I think incarceration is a bit extreme. What if it was the mother who did this? Would you suggest SHE go to jail? I doubt it. We'd all sit here and judge her just as harshly, but I find it hard to believe anyone would cry for jail.

Angrymuch, how old is this LITTLE ONE you speak of? I think there are certain places that you should buckle ANY age child in, no questions asked..a busy street for example.

  24. jxj makes perfect sense.

I think jail is great for intentional offenses...and losing one's job is appropriate for stupidity and gross negligence. Clearly, whoever this woman was, she is a bonehead.

I have had friends, as moms, who let their kids stand up in grocery carts, strollers and high chairs. One of them even had several accidents with her children because she was so negligent...all of them requiring doctor visits. I always wondered when the day would come when her doctor would report her for being incompetent and having her children get repeatedly harmed...but as far as I know he never did.

So, going to jail for your baby falling out of the stroller would never happen.

  25. I feel so sorry for the baby. Hope she's ok and that the parents realize they need to replace that nanny.

  26. he's 2 years old and it's when we pick up the older girls from school.

  27. Not bothering to buckle a child into their stroller is as lazy, stupid and pointless as not washing your hands before you eat after riding the bus and subway. Sure, you *probably* won't get any intestinal parasites or anything that makes you puke and have diarrhea for longer than 36 hours, but why NOT just do the sensible thing?!

    ReplyDelete
  28. No need for the parents to read it here, the ER will call them to get permission to treat the child. I am sure it will all come ut in the end what happened. The nanny will get her due!
