This is the second child in 2 days to be left in a car to die. Third in Houston if you count the baby that dad forgot to drop off at daycare in March. So tragic.Poor little angels.
OMG...the poor little guy! This is so incredibly heartbreaking. And it does sound like the mom really didn't realize. She must be in complete agony...from which she will likely never recover. I know I wouldn't. I can hardly bear to think of this little guy crying, calling for his mommy, trying to free himself, and then eventually dying a horrifying death...and this particular child is not even the center of my universe.
There has to be a way to prevent this! Maybe car manufacturers (who have probably saved tons of kids with those great back-up beepers that prevent people from running over thir kids in the driveway) will step up and be able to invent some sort of contraption that makes a distinctive, ear peircing (different from and not to be confused with a car burglary alarm sound, but some universal sound that would not eventually become commonplace and be ignored) signal when a living creature is inside a parked car for more than 5 minutes. They could make it mandatory that the signal be turned off on puropse each and every time the car is turned off in the event you want to leave an adult inside a car waiting for somebody to run into the store, etc. Some yahoos would still probably intentionally leave kids in cars, but at least we would have the oportunity to KNOW 100% for sure that it was intentional and mommy or daddy could be aptly punished for murder without question or doubt as to their cuplability. That ought to be a good deterrent for selfish idiots, and a protection for loving parents who might otherwise make a tragic mistake.
They already have a system in place in Mass to protect police dogs. Police dogs are routinely left in cars with the car and ac running. However, a tragic case or two has happened where the car stalled or something. So now they are equipped so if the car goes above a certain temperature with the dog inside the horn will start going off and the door will open to the car.
Tragic story about another child dying in a car. He even tried to save himself:
