What am I missing with the first entry? It seems perfectly normal. What's the WTF?
ReplyDeleteWTF = what the f
ReplyDeleteNow, I'll tell you what bothers me about the first one. Personally, I and most other nannies I believe, are there for the children, not to scrub your toilet. Maybe some people don't mind, but I do.
I don't have a problem with child related stuff like cooking their meals, helping them with their room, picking up toys and organizing things- but I will NOT be vacuuming your house, washing your dishes (except for the childs), dusting, or any of that other crap that you need to hire a Housekeeper for. Sorry, but that's just me.
Sorry, when I said "What's the WTF?" I wasn't looking for a definition of the acronym, I meant, where's the WTF about the first listing. I agree, nynanny, that I wouldn't take a Nanny/Housekeeper job, but there are lots of people who would, and the person who's advertising is being completely upfront about the job description. If they're paying well enough and find someone who doesn't mind the jod, what's wrong with combining the two jobs?
ReplyDeleteand how, big apple nanny, you said it! if ah's payin some girlie to watch my chilluns, I don't want her sweepin no outhouse or cookin no grits. she is there to watch my youngins and its shoenough fine with me if she wants ta plop em down in fronta maury. as long as she's watchin them, that is. you can't watch a child if you's doin dishes. a nanny is a nanny, not a chamber maid.
ReplyDeleteand that's why I use paper plates in my house, sugar: you just throw em away, easy peasy! :)
Yeah, I have to agree with Emily. As long as the nanny knows she is half nanny/half housekeeper and is being paid accordingly, I don't see a "wtf" about it.
ReplyDeleteBut as for those $300/$400 per MONTH ads, those people are complete idiots.
Yeah, I see what you mean, emily & KC. You're right. But, still.
ReplyDelete(lol, sorry about the wtf thing emily, I didn't know what you meant!);)
Does anyone know where I can find a nanny job in New York (preferably UES since it's where I grew up)
ReplyDeleteI have checked craigslist. I do not currently live in NY so it's hard for me to go through an agency. but I am looking for a livein position and relocating to New York.
I am very reliable and experienced! And legal!
Someone help me out! I will do background checks, drug tests, etc etc
the first job is like for 6 days a week. 3 kids on saturday, too? And the bitch wants you to be busy every second? Nannies don't clean. Fuck that first bitch.
ReplyDeletejojo what a potty mouth on you.
ReplyDeleteJojo may have a potty mouth, but she's right. I would never dream of asking my nanny to clean. I just think it's unprofessional.
ReplyDeleteI understand there are some who may chose to do it, and I can only hope their getting paid above and beyond what they'd earn for being a nanny, but I don't believe it's right.
sorry>choose
ReplyDelete...the first job is only for 5 days a week...
ReplyDeletejojo,
ReplyDeleteit is only five days a week, not six.
alice from the brady bunch did childcare and cleaning and cooking and I was always under the impression that they sort of didn't pay her well. they also made her wear a uniform and go camping and stuff with them and she slept in the laundry room too.
ReplyDeletejust saying.
Everybody is so worried about this first ad, what about the second one?! Two wks., $800, 24/7?! Oh, and there's more! You would not believe one of the other ads after the click, the one about "don't call my kids precious"! Wow!! Now that one is a big WTF?! Hee-hee
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when someone was going to comment on the long friekin ad on there that I think is made up, if not people are just plain stupid.
ReplyDeleteJo Jo Bear, How is Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat six days a week? Maybe you should spend less time reading internet sites and more time studying a weekly calendar.
ReplyDeleteAt least the employers are being upfront about the position. As opposed to MY first employers who slowly piled on the housekeeping tasks as if I wouldn't notice (and, me being so young and naive I actually did them!)
There are PLENTY of people who would take that job.
So she glossed over the specifics and used some foul language. Who is going to accept this job? Some abusive ruthless bitch with a good head for ironing and a flawless routine for waxing hardwood floors. Unfortunately for us, we won't see her picture under housekeepers of the year, we will see her when she is out and about, exhausted from scrubbing mr. dirty diddies and mrs. menstrual splats, nauseaus from the fumes of discount cleaning supplies and slapping a child and low and behold she will go by thy name nanny.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a nanny.
This position should read "glorified housekeeper" or simply, "Let me make you our bitch".
What happens on Wednesdays? Something magical? The housekeeper is always off, free and clear and never bullied to scour, sponge or burp on Wet and wild wednesdays? I had a nanny job once and it was "weekends off". By thurs they were blackmailing me to work weekends and by friday they were pissed and about to fire me because I wouldnt. By friday afternoon I caved and always gave them one day and one night.
Employers- You cant live with em and you shouldn't have to!
not sure why that is a bad thing. I get every single person who doesn't want housekeeping to be part of a nanny position. But this isn't a nanny position. It's half time work as a housekeeper, half time work as a nanny. The person who placed the ad doesn't ask you to do both at once. She seems to realistically expect them to be done at different times. The overall weekly hours are only 38 which also seems reasonable. Yeah, you watch 3 kids on Saturday night. Again, neither that complicated nor a personal insult. Sorry you find managing 3 kids (two of whom are 8yo) a monumental task, jojobear. And she expects you to be busy throughout your working hours? Wow, some people. Imagine expecting you to WORK while you are at your JOB. Not sure why that's personally insulting to nannies who want to work only as nannies. That implies that working as a housekeeper is inherently a demeaning job. Just love nannies who think they are above the housekeeper, which is really the only way to interpret a nanny being insulted because someone openly, directly advertised for a position that involved both.
ReplyDeleteIf I enjoyed working as a cashier and a job advertised needing half cashier, half bagging groceries I would not find that PERSONALLY insulting because how could someone possibly think I would take a job that involved me bagging groceries. How dare they even THINK of combining those two positions into one job description. The nerve of them. It just shows no respect for cashiers. Or what about a job ad for half store manager, half stock person because that's really more reflective of how much better a nanny is than a housekeeper, after all.
Elle,
ReplyDeleteHave you posted your own ad on Craigslist? Most UES families who employ LI nannies are in the Hamptons etc. in August, and not thinking about finding a nanny. There are usually a lot of job openings after Labor Day.
Your best bet is an agency though. It might be worth it to come to the city for a week to job hunt. To save time, contact an agency first to see if they can do the background check before you get here.
But Umass, they let Sam come by and slip Alice a tube steak now and then....so I think she didn't mind so much.
ReplyDelete#1, I agree completely. If people are not interested in that combination of duties, they don't have to apply. It's not one of those jobs everyone has experienced where the employer keeps sneaking in additional tasks for no additional pay.
ReplyDelete"Precious" ad? OMG. Does she really think ANYONE will apply??
And I am horrified by the one whose "frind" is a "nany" and wants a "jop". THAT one might be qualified to do the housekeeping tasks.
I thought the not precious ad was funny! I think that it is real... lol... at least she is honest about who she is going to be. LMAO... it sorta made my night to read :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a fun-loving asshole and I totally dug the "Precious" ad. I could definately see myself writing something like that. It's who I am. What's wrong with being honest about who you are?
ReplyDeleteI may come off as a bitch, but I'm not... really, I'm not. But I'd make sure to pay well if I was going to make someone put up with me.
Oh no, I fear I missed the "precious ad". I went to CL NY, and didn't see it. Can someone please paste it in, or fill me in on what it said...anything enjoyable to "fun-loving assholes" is right up my alley. ;) LOL
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is enjoying their weekend!
Maybe I just have not had enough coffee yet or maybe I'm just a bitch (probably bitch) but I just didn't think the "precious" ad was funny. I thought it was sad that this mom does not excersise any discretion when speaking of herself and her children. I thought it was just sort of trashy, to be honest. Not appropriate for an ad. More appropriate for a discussion with one's buddies, but an ad on the internet? I would never write such things about my children for the world to see. It is good that she put it on the table that she is a fing wacko so that serious, human nannies need not apply, but still. I think this woman sounds like an ego-maniac to think that her "ad" is a good and enticing one. Weeding out nannies that are not for you is one thing: posting a "bloggish" diatribe as an ad for childcare is, in my opinion, ridiculous. She implies that she feels she is a "great writer." But great writers are aware of the proper forums in which to present their work. And I didn't think she was that great a writer.
ReplyDeleteI sort of wanted to punch her while I was reading it, and I am not a violent person at all. :(
MOM!!!! LOLOLOL! "slip Alice a tube steak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
ReplyDeletemaybe you would like my blog after all! hehehehehehehehe!!!
that just made my day~!!!!!!! :)
thank you!@@@@lolololololol!!!
EmmaVeronica
ReplyDeleteAfter the 2nd CL-WTF Ad, under that it says "Click Here" in RED. Click that Button. It'll take you to the page with "Precious" on it.
Have fun!! LOL!
Mom
ReplyDeleteThat was fabulous, especially coming from you!
Umass
I think that it was more sad than funny, but still funny, the Precious ad. Truth is, I can't imagine anyone really answering that ad, and if it was some kind of low-life, I think this mom would hopefully weed them out. I'm not sure what her agenda was, but it only seemed like it was a half-hearted attempt at looking for someone to care for her children, either that, or she's just the most honest person I've ever seen to put an ad on CL! IDK, what do you think? Why would she do it this way? You are clearly a very intelligent writer, so I'm sure you would have a really interesting opinion.
umass,
ReplyDeleteease up on the overpromoting of your blog. We know how to get there. Thanx.
jojo,
ReplyDeletewhy don't you go back to pre-algebra and learn how to add: I noticed you were having a problem with it earlier.
mom had previously asked me a question regarding said blog and I was referring to that conversation. lighten up, charlie. we know you don't like me. Thanks. :)
ny nanny, thank you that is very nice of you to say. I think, in a nutshell, the woman is just a very egotistical person who feels that her honesty excuses her from being unpleasant, which in my opinion it does not. I think she would be horrible to work for, and instead of shouting from the mountaintops "I am horrible to work for" which she is, in a sense, doing, she should be working to improve herself.
ReplyDeletejust my opinion! :)
Yes, seriously, Umass-- enough with the blog promotion. It isn't even nanny-related, is it?
ReplyDeletewhy should I have to promote it: you are all doing it for me! :) I am not the one who keeps bringing it up, dear, I am merely responding to posts.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Just a bunch of haters! All umass did was warn another poster about the content of her blog so that her underage daughter wouldn't be exposed. You slags, especially jojo, have nothing better to do but rag on somebody else?
ReplyDeleteHey, jojo, maybe you should confront all of the other posters that jumped your ass first before you start another fight.
Just a thought.
thanks, nynanny! I really was not trying to go against any rules, just responding to other posters.
ReplyDelete:( I think jane and mpp know me well enough to know that I try to play by the rules! I would never disrespect this blog intentionally since I enjoy it so much.
hope you're having a great day!
I thought that the "precious" ads was simply awesome fiction. Sorry, she sounds awful to work for, seriously. Even if she is just joking, it was creepy at times. :)
ReplyDeleteSome of the other ones were just odd... "Live-in Nanny needed TODAY!", but I won't be able to meet you, but my sister-in-law will. I can't imagine moving in with someone the same day or hiring someone on the spot to move into my home.
The caregiver/ mother's helper is also laughable. $100/ week for 55 hours of work... I'm going to try this again... is roughly $1.81/ hour. Are they serious?
And 10 references for, again trying..., $3.75 an hour? Thanks, but no thanks.
Hopefully my math is better this time around... :)
*PS- I posted this on the "second" comment area on the other page.*
*Also, whether or not you agree with JoJo, we all understand that she made a mathematical mistake. We get it. Let's drop it. We've all been known to do it.*
fisherman's wife,
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything you said! these ads are amazingly crazy! :)
regarding jojo, he/she is always mean to me and tries to start trouble with me with insults and I don't try to do that with anyone. I think someone who picks on other people should expect people to get irritated and snarky with them, just mho! :)
Hi fishermans wife
ReplyDeleteit wasn't all about jojo's inability to do math, she's also a troll. She needs to mind her own business and watch her manners.
posted at the same time, ha!
ReplyDeletemore than math and UMASS-- sorry, I don't pay attention/ read closely enough to always catch who is saying what to whom and I am typically particularly oblivious to "trolls." It's something I have never picked up on. I know that I had just read six or seven responses that all commented specifically on jojo's math.
ReplyDeleteSo, I didn't mean to offend you. Don't pay attention to the stupid that just falls out of my mouth sometimes. :)
F. Wife, we love ya, don't worry about it!:)
ReplyDeletefisherman's wife, you don't have to apologize: you did nothing wrong. It is hard to pick up on trolls when they are not attacking you! :) I hope you don't get attacked by trolls because it is very irritating sometimes when you are minding your own business and people keep picking on you and twisting what you say and stuff.
ReplyDeleteand as said above "we love ya!" :)
Awww... thanks guys!! Love you too!
ReplyDeleteAnd UMASS, I'm sorry someone is trolling you. That has to suck. I know that there are women on other sites that I blog/ post on who are being stalked/ trolled and it SUCKS. I really wish that people would just get a life.
My name is BLB and I am a recovering troll.I have not been trolling in almost 8 weeks now.
ReplyDeleteIt took a wonderful and kind person to help me see my miserable ways.
Some of us do not realize that we are trolls. Our blogging becomes unmanagable and consumes our everythought.God help the person that dares to have a different opinion than we do.Some of us sneak insults late at night when we think no one is looking, others do it blatantly in broad daylight.
Some of us are sick and controlling and some of us are just bitches.
I was just a bitch.A really, really big bitch.
I now have my very own troll . She is a really, really big, ummm, troll. She follows me all over this board. But she is not my own private troll, she is a free spirit, free love kinda troll. She trolls with many.
Umass, I too, am sorry you are being plagued by a troll. I love your sense of humor and your quick replies.I also love that you think outside of the box!
I have been introduced to many new things through you here on ISYN.
Hopefully your troll will get bored soon and hit the road.
Meanwhile, I hope you'll keep it coming, cause girlfriend, you got it going on! You have a lot of great insight to offer when it comes to children and nanny issues.
As far as these ads, wow, some of these people are out to lunch.
I think CL is fabulous and provides a wonderful service for free. I also think CL rocks when it comes to bringing out the "strange and stupid & cheap" in people.
You sound almost like somebody admitting they had an addiction!
ReplyDelete"Hi, my name is Nancy, and I'm an alcoholic".. Haha! I love it, BLB! You are so funny.
Recovering trolls are the best!!lol
blb
ReplyDeleteit's ok, girlfriend: some of us are hawtcelebaholics which is much worse. :( and I'm not even attempting to recover. :(
and thank you for the kind words, they are appreciated. :)
I think some equally 'kooky' person will respond to the not-precious ad and the two will become boosum (sp?)friends. They'll be the wild and crazy gals that impress all the slimy men at the local with their drink shooting ability!
ReplyDeleteIt struck me as tad trashy as well but I have to give her props for keepin' it real!
Butt Looks Big,
ReplyDeleteHave I told you lately that I LOVE you?!
You too Umass.
Hang tough, ladies. Caped Crusader has got your backs!
Thanks mom! You are the best!!
ReplyDeleteCaped Crusader..too funny!
And BTW, your Tube steak remark, had me LMAO, I could not believe my eyes...mom said that..really? Too funny!!!
