Treehouse Social Club in Beverly Hills, CA

Received Friday, February 22, 2008
Today at Treehouse Social Club in Beverly Hills, CA - small male red headed boy, about 6 months, just learning to crawl, left alone in toddler area. When Nanny returned she sat in chair starring off into space. did not engage, speak to, touch or address child in any way the entire time they were there. Child picked up a piece of paper and placed in his mouth and was playing with it. when nanny finally noticed she shoved her hand in childs mouth repeatedly and severely scolded him. The piece of paper was very, very small which did not require the repeated efforts of forcing his jaw open and sweeping him mouth with all of her fingers. This was not done in a manner that someone certified in CPR would do. when she became aware that I was watching, she gave me quite a glare as she quickly packed up child and left. Child was left alone for quite some time. this is a supervised play situation. I was with my child very close by and there are other parents present so no child would get seriously injured but this child was much too young to be left alone and scolded in such a manner. He was far too young to be completely ignored for extended periods of time. also, nanny was very aggressive with regard to handling child. nanny was hispanic with heavily highlighted hair and faux leaopard jacket. child was male, very young, 6 months with bright red hair.

  1. I don't like the sounds of this. Something sick about people who are unnecci. rough with a child when they have a reason to put their hands on a kid. so many horror stories., see the vid on cnn. the way that someone handles a kid in public is really imp. when you see what this nanny was doing in private!

  2. What kind of a social club is it exactly? Does this mean the child's family could be members? If so, you must approach the staff to help identify the family. Please, help this child!

Thank you for posting. I hope this child's situation can change as a result of your posting on this site.

  3. This is definitely a negligent, even abusive nanny. If this is a membership club, there must be a way to contact the family. If you see her there again, ask the management.

  5. I have to throw this in here:

I love the little girl I take care of with all my heart, and every time I go out with her I feel like I have one person say "she looks cold" and another say "she looks hot." Seems like I can never do anything right as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

She is 11 months old and if I saw her eating a piece of paper I would fish it out of her mouth-- it could have more in it than just processed wood, maybe something poisonous. And because she gets into EVERYTHING all of the time I would probably try to see in her mouth as well. We also tend to "play rough," as in I swing her around and lift her up high. When I read all of these extreme responses I wonder if you all would call me an abusive caregiver as well, were I to try to stop her from eating paper in front of you.

    Any thoughts?

  6. at 11mo. old, maybe you shouldn't be throwing her around like that. i don't think their bones are fully developed yet, and she could get hurt.
not abusive, of course, but you should be very careful!

  7. I posted this because I was there with my child..inches away from this baby that was left unattended. It isn't a matter of being extreme, this child was left unattended in a public setting. Even if it is Beverly Hills the woman who was most surely his nanny left him alone for an extended period of time. Anyone could have walked out with the child. The baby was barely crawling. I found myself keeping an eye out for him and yes, I will will contact management. Whether this was a nanny, a mother, an aunt or other, there is absolutely no excuse, short of a dire emergency, to leave a child alone or even unattended in a public setting. In this day and age, this behavior puts a child at obvious risk.

  8. I agree with the first comment. Extreme roughness with a child in public makes one wonder how this child is treated in private.
