Nanny spotted at 82nd and bdwy Starbucks-AA, glasses, thin, looks like in 30's, long brown down winter coat with faux fur lined hood. Baby is a boy, looks about a year, maybe a little younger, black valco stroller, screaming nonstop for about 30 minutes while the nanny finished her coffee. She attempted to jam the pacifier in his mouth a few times but otherwise completely ignored him and let him scream while she enoyed her drink.
How could somebody stand to listen to a baby cry that long ... and enjoy a cup of coffee to boot? The only way would be because this Nanny must have herself desensitized to it because she does it often ... how awful. I wish I were there - I would have dumped my Grande Espresso Macchiato all over her faux fur lined jacket.
ReplyDeleteWEll thats a nice way to handle a situation that you see. Why don't we all use Violence. Come on
ReplyDeletesounds like a bad mom sighting to me! But then if we wrote those we'd be here all day....
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for the Starbucks customers and employees.
ReplyDeleteImagine sitting at your laptop, trying to work on a portfolio, and you hear some brat screaming for half an hour.

ReplyDeleteI guess you don't understand my attempt at biting humor. Of course I wouldn't actually do it ... sometimes it is hard for sarcasm to come across on a computer. I figured my aim at describing a popular coffee at Starbucks would clue people in ... guess I was wrong.
A person who obviously has so little regard for others, as evidenced by her willingness to make everybody at Starbucks listen to that for that long (not to mention the distress of the poor baby all that time) is a person who lacks empathy and is, therefore, unfit to care for children.
ReplyDeleteI imagine how she acts when nobody's watching! It takes a special kind of selfish to do what she did.
that is horrible! for everyone else and the child. unfortunately, that may have been the boy's mother. :(
ReplyDeleteThats ok. A mother and father strolled into the 11:35pm showing of "30 Days of Night" with their 2-3 year old the other night. For those not familiar, 30 Days....is a violent Vampire movie. I allowed the baby to scream in his stroller ignored for 5 minutes before I went over, tapped the woman on the shoulder and ploitely told her if she did not remove her baby from the theater and this inappropriate movie I was going to call the police because no baby belonged out at this hour at a
ReplyDeletemovie like this. They left promptly.
People can be so rude with their kids in public. It always makes me really mad because it ruins it for people who have enough manners to take their children only to places where it as appropriate, and take their children out as soon as they begin to get disruptive. Childern overal get a bad reputation because of a few really crummy, rude parents.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. Starbucks coffee drinkers deserve peace and quiet when drinking a $5 cup of coffee. The audacity of this woman!
ReplyDeletePerhaps this baby has colic and does this for hours on end with nothing to help relieve him until it passes. If that were the case then I would need that cup of coffee too in order to care for a colicky baby full time.
If you have a screaming infant, for any reason, take it outside. It's rude and selfish to make other people endure your child's prolonged screaming when they are trying to have an enjoyable experience anywhere indoors in public. What makes you so much more special than everybody else that you don't care how your behavior affects them? That's called narcissism, by the way. Look it up so you'll understand when somebody calls you that, if they haven't already.
ReplyDelete1:31...good for you. Being a mom of young kids, I can tolerate a bit of screaming and tune it out in certain atmospheres, but that was a completely inappropriate place for a child to even be to begin with.
