Toddler Park In Carlstadt NJ

Received Wednesday, October 17, 2007
Great Nanny sighting in Carlstadt, NJ I saw a great nanny today, (10/17) and had to share! This woman was in her mid-30's. Red-blonde curly hair, heavyset with a red shirt and green slacks. Her charge was named Mat, a little boy who is almost 3 (nanny told me when I asked) He was wearing Jeans with a design on one leg and a nice stadium jacket. Nanny was very active and attentive to her little boy. In fact, nothing indicated she was his nanny and I thought she was his mom until I asked her how old her son was and she said almost three but he's not my son, I am his babysitter. She had juice for him to drink, snacks for him when he got hungry, and was very involved in playing with him and interacting with him. She gave him just enough space to be independent and climb on his own, but was there for him whenever she was wanted or needed. When it was time for him to go and her charge sat down and said "NO!" and began to cry, nanny lovingly got down beside him and spoke very softly to him. Mat stood, still crying a bit but much more under control and nanny praised him to the sky saying what a "big boy" and thanking him for showing her such "Nice walking" They left the park, on foot, heading up towards Division Street. If this is your nanny you are very lucky. I am sorry I did not get her number!

  3. Matt is usually spelled Matt. Did she discuss the spelling with you? Or are you Mat's nanny?

  4. 4:42-Ha!

Op-whether you are Mat(t)'s nanny or not, it's good to know that there are caregivers out there that actually understand child developement.

  5. I am the OP and no I am not MATT'S nanny. I did however, spend my summers working chance stands at the Jersey shore where the names were spelled in 3 letters or less (i.e. Joe, Tom, Mom, Nat, Jen, Mat...etc ...etc.) Force of habit!

  6. Amanda and SuperAmanda - My nanny is 10 years younger than me. She is from Russia and has a degree in early childhood development.
I don't think one needs to be US born to be a good nanny. Nor do I believe one needs to be close to my age.
I do believe it is only appropriate to hire a professional nanny rather than a babysitter.

Why is it some of you just can't stand to see a good nanny sighting?
We don't know which spelling this boy uses. Your response is rediculous.

    Nice post OP.

  9. Amanda and SuperAmanda- LOL, not all employers are slimey.
Yes, I pay the employer portion of FICA. I pay FUTA and SUTA. She is here legally - I have a W-9 in my file. I pay for half of her health insurance, she pays for the other half. That is something we struggle with as it is not very good coverage (in my opinion).
As I stated, she is a professional nanny.

    YOU are EVIL!

I actually stay home and raise my own kids!. We dont have the largest home or most expensive car but my kids have ME!

I was sorry I didn't speak more to her about the possibility of sitting on occasion for my husband and I should we want to enjoy an evening out without imposing on family.

YOU must be EVIL since it is clear how YOUR mind works. God but there are some WITCHES on this site! I let it pass when the snarky comment about the spelling of the child's name was made but some of you people are too much! No wonder this site is dying. I will never post here again because who wants to be put through the inquisition because they posted to a blog.

  12. 11:12,
Your post was wonderful. I love to read great nanny sightings. Except in cases of racism or extreme profanity, I do try not to censor the comments. Yes, some nastiness gets through. It is regrettable, but we aren't dying. Just weathering another influx...

  13. I love the fact that you stay home and raise your own kids!!! More mothers on this site need to sign off the internet and go read to their kids...while we spend time on this site bashing the shotty performance of some caretakers, we ourselves are not taking care of our own children!! just something to keep in mind!!!
    xoxo love you ladies!!!

  14. what do you mean you "love the fact that you raise your own kids"?
that's what everyone is SUPPOSED to do
if you want to work and devote your whole life to work
DON"T HAVE KIDS because they'll end up being raised by a COMPLETE stranger and they'll hate you for it

  15. 12:22 - Some parents work and are still good parents. A working parent does not mean a parent who has checked out on parenting.
Different strokes for different folks, right?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wrong.
Checked out is a good definition for "parents" who work without it being an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY.

So you hire a nanny to raise your kids while your are "working?" Isn't nannying also a job? But is being the one to do the job of raising your kids too beneath you? So you hire somebody to do your parenting job while you go out and do a "more satisfying job?" Nice.

  17. 11:12, I think it is great you stay home with your kids. I do too and would have it no other way. But you cannot take the comments to heart.

Some people thrive on chaos and controversy; other people just have fun with it; and still more are here for more serious reasons. I think most of us are a combo of all three.

I know all too well how hard it can be to not take things personally, especially when it seems you are personally attacked. I've been there and it took me some time to get over it, but I did and you will too.

Stick around a while. You just mind find you like at least some of us!

  18. You are right I shouldn't let what people say on here get to me some people are just nasty and miserble and I appreciate the non-censorship, I really do!

As an update, I bumped into the nanny again Thursday. She was pushing MATT or Mat (Still didn't ask the spelling! :D in a double stroller with his twin sister Sammy Or SAMMIE) I got her number because again she was doing a great job with the kids. She gave me her references over the phone today and I plan to call them and especially let The twins mom know what a great job she is doing!

  20. I see a lot of paranoid people on this site worrying about their childcare, and rightly so. Why would you entrust your precious children to some stranger?? You don't really know what goes on. As a parent, why are you not interested in raising your own children?? I'm sorry but if you can afford a nanny, that means you can afford to stay home. You might have to give up the fancy car or whatever. Is a car or some other luxury more important than your kid? That is essentially the choice you are making. Don't be surprised when you have problems later with your kid or they're not all that attached to you. I know my kid loves me, not some stranger in my home.
