Two different nannies on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007:
Nanny one: dark hair, between 20 and 25 watching two blonde girls. One in the range of 7 - 9, the other anywhere from 5 to 7. Nanny arrived at the park and immediately found the nearest bench. The girls were not in her sight at all. The smaller girl had on pink pumas. The nanny did not get up until I said something to her. She was mostly concerned with her cell phone and the snacks in the bag she brought to the park.
Nanny two: Large black woman. Driving a sedan - I think an Acura or Honda. Silver or metallic blue. Children were both boys. Both blondes. The older child was probably 3 or 4. The younger was from 8 months to 1 year. The flew into the parking lot doing at least 30 mph. She parked crooked in the parking spot. She took the kids out of the car. The older child charged across the parking lot to the park as she was getting the baby out of the car. She proceeded to sit on her butt the entire time. Not engaging the baby at all and completely ignoring the older boy. He fell several times off of the monkey bars, the slide and other various apparatus, and she did not move an inch from her bench. She was fat and lazy. I felt sorry for the kids.
I think when parents hire someone in poor physical health they know what they are getting. If this women is getting a low wage then the parents are getting exactly what they paid for.
ReplyDeleteSooooo...what was nanny number 1's race? Was she fat and lazy, too, or just the large black nanny? Just wondering, since the black nanny was large and lazy.
ReplyDeletePlease, do you ever see these SAHM moms. They drive these huge SUV's like bats out of hell.
ReplyDeleteSo you are defending two specific accounts of bad nannyine with a general observation?
ReplyDeleteNext time you see something, get the details and send it in.
Otherwise-GET BACK TO WORK. You missed a spot.
The first sighting doesn't really bother me, both children are old enough to play on their own at the park, though nanny should keep an eye on them.
ReplyDeleteThe second sighting is bad, I feel sorry for all of these ignored babies straped into strollers with no interaction.
Who says that just because your overweight that your in poor physical health? I am overweight and have NO health problems, so what when other people stare at me for going down the slide with the kids, or running with them through the water, at least I am up playing with them and not sitting on the bench!
ReplyDelete~Lindsey, SAHM~
3:10...I take offense! I am a SAHM and I drive an SUV, but never will you see me driving like a bat out of hell! Ha!
ReplyDeleteso what happened to nannies 3 through 10 since u obviously went to the park to out nannies.
ReplyDeleteLindsey, the parents are not staring at you, they are staring at the slide in fear it may collapse like the Minneapolis Bridge did a few months back. There's just so much a structure can take.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your comments and the more people who comment- the better. But, please take a look at our comment policy. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLarge adults should not go down children's slides. Sorry, but they just aren't built for that.
ReplyDeleteActually, most of the equipment has a 300lb limit. Some of the equipment at the playgrounds for older children has a 350lb weight limit. The reason is so that multiple children can be safely supported and accomodated. Personally, I find adults on slides to be annoying, but they can be supported quite safely- even if they are very large.
ReplyDeleteJOE on the playground
ReplyDeleteWhy do you find adults on slides, annoying? I think its great a parent actually wants to get off their butt and play with their child.
ReplyDelete"Who says that just because your overweight that your in poor physical health?"
ReplyDeleteIf you are sitting and doing nothing and you are overweight as this nanny was described you are probably in poor health.
Being over weight is a silent killer, especially with how many hormones and plastics are in food and the environment now, excess body fat stores toxins.
Being overweight is unhealthy. Yes. But my nanny is very overweight. Perhaps because she has her own food issues and is aware of the sterotypes, she is anything but lazy and a poor role model. She may binge on pizza and chocolate when off work, but she eats normally and for the most part healthily while with our two children who are 2 and 5. She dons a bathing suit and plays with them in the pool and sprinklers. She chases after them and dances with them. I've never come across "missing food". Is this the norm? Probably not. But what you all should be looking for in your caregivers are KIND people with verifiable backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteI notice that a lot of extremely overweight people are somewhat incapacitated by the excess weight and cannot move as quickly or are as agile as they would be if they lost some weight. No wonder so many Americans are in this boat with all the fast food and other unhealthy snacks and soft drinks we've had shoved down our throats for decades now. We need to get back to eating natural foods and in the correct amounts. I've been as guilty as anyone, but I'm trying - I really am, and I have concern and sympathy for those who have this problem.
ReplyDeleteI am overweight, but I am a lot healthier than many people I know who are thin. In fact experts say that when it comes to health, many skinny people are more "obese" and unhealthy than some overweight people. I have a routine regimen of vitamins, antioxidants, exercise, etc. At times I can't run as fast or as long as my two year old, but I know I am healthy and in fact losing weight. It doesn't stop me from sliding, swinging, and playing with my son at the playground.
ReplyDeleteIs that wrong for an overweight person to play and have fun?
Although I'm hoping the post is more about a lazy nanny who happens to be a larger woman as well.
Both of these nannies stink-I hope someone recognizes them!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I hate the term "fat and lazy". if she was thin and was sitting on her butt doing nothing-would you say "thin and lazy"? I happen to be a larger woman and I am far from lazy! I just hate to think that people believe anyone who is a bit overweight is "fat and lazy".
Only slow, stupid people think that adults shouldn't go down the slide and play with children on the playground. What kind of comment is that? Shame on you for being so closed minded and selfish. You're probably just really fat, and can't get off of your fat a$$ to even play on a playground...bitter much?
ReplyDeleteI am overweight and I do yoga 3x a week and work out 4x a week as well as eat 80% veggies. I'm confident with where I'm at where-ever that is. And you? Anyone who feels the need to point out the flaws in others is negative and has serious esteem issues of their own. You're transparent, it's pathetic.
ReplyDelete"I am overweight, but I am a lot healthier than many people I know who are thin."
ReplyDeleteYou are not though beacuse even if your friends are thin with little muscle tone their organs and skeleton do not have to work over time which is much more stressful.
I some of you who claim to be healthy and over weight were lifting weights and doing cardio along with veggies and yoga then you'd be leaning out and gradually taking your weight down as you should.
Some people can't, damn-shut up.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure most of the people here attemptimg to offer advice on how our bodies should look, are sahm-who get lipo and botox. It's so much easier to be thin when you have money, nannies, maid service, and a cheating husband who gives you money as long as you shut-up. You think these overweight people don't know what to do to be thin? All body types are different-are you a doctor who knows, off hand , that these people's bodies are automatically stressed? Hell, you don't even know if they're 10 pounds overweight, or 100 pounds overweight. All you should know if how to mind your business, and call you dr. for your next botox injection. You're like little miss no-it-alls, and the school bully.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteDon't generalize. Im a thin stay at home mom (no botox or any of that though) and I would never say anything ugly about how somebody else looks.
I have however, had several people on here suggest that I must be fat, ugly, dirty, live in a trailer, and not wash my hair.
That's what people do when they have no valid argument to offer...they lash out in very immature ways.
Do not waste your time responding to such small minded people. They are not worth your time.
(However, I must admit that I sometimes wonder how these same accusers look themselves. Somehow I do not suspect it is the people who look the best. Perhaps it is,however, the people who care about looks the most. Shallow people, obviously anyway.)
lol..I love the "Im overweight and Im healthy" comments. Uhh..no, you're not. Everyone who is overweight is unhealthy. Period. I would never hire an overweight nanny.
ReplyDeleteI would never hire a fat nanny either. I have 6 percent body fat. My BP is high and my heart is enlarged on account of the diet pills and binging, but damn when i walk down the street in my sevens, all the men go,
ReplyDelete"i'm in 7th heaven"
duute diduute ditute dute dute
You think I'm not healthy because I am overweight. But what do you really consider healthy? Obviously being overweight in-itself is not healthy. But I have not been sick in over 3 years, have you been sick at all in 3 years? I'm talking: no allergies, no runny nose, no cold, no sore throat. NOTHING. I do not get sick because of my health and antioxidant supplements. At the same time of being overweight I am losing weight as I walk/ run, lift weights, do yoga. So you tell me I'm not healthy all you want. But I know that I am and day by day I am more and more healthy.
ReplyDeleteceo
ReplyDeletethere is a difference between not catching a virus and being truly healthy. I don't think you understand that but kudos to you for trying to improve your health and good luck.
3:16 is either a man, or full of it. A woman at 6% body fat would be dead or nearly so.
ReplyDeleteOr if you are a large woman justifying overweight by pointing out that SOME women have eating disorders, shame on you. That's no excuse, and it's in poor taste to boot.
6:07 are you daft? 3:16 is obviously being sarcastic.
ReplyDelete6:07, is most certainly daft...and I rather enjoyed the sarcasm pouring forth from 3:16's mouth...for a moment it lightened the bitter freakin' mood in here! I have never seen PMS and bitc...ehem...cattiness like I've seen on this lovely lil jewel of a site. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou all need to get over yourselves, and learn to accept other people, there is not one said "good" and one said "bad"...there is an in-between folks! Holy ba-jebus, we are such a thick skulled society of extremes are we not?!
Just one last question for some of you, do you have any friends in real life, or are you just bossy, venomous, and know it alls when you sit behind the keyboard? Just a question, from a woman who isn't afraid to tell it like it is. ;)
I didn't watch the video Mr. Pregnant posted but I saw the first ten seconds. The man featured reminds me of the leader of one of the infamous bad nanny posses of Park Slope. He looks just like her!
ReplyDeletei got the apple-
ReplyDelete"Just one last question for some of you, do you have any friends in real life, or are you just bossy, venomous, and know it alls when you sit behind the keyboard?"
In person I am quiet, polite and complacent. I wear my brown shoulder length hair in a prim bun and I wear a double breasted blazer most days. My bra is a minimizer so I don't distract from the corporate image I am trying to project. I oversee about 65 employees, four of whom are worth their salary. The remaining 61 or so, I spend my time coaching, holding their hands, being on the receiving end of their lame excuses and trying to boost their morale so they will achieve something. I am home by 630 most nights. If I am late, my nanny won't speak to me for three days. She is good, so she basically owns me. My husband is either traveling or home by 5:15. Regardless, the nanny works until 6:30, so he uses the extra time to go for a jog every night. I come home and on atleast four nights, I have to cook dinner for two. I love wine and wouldn't mind drinking boxed wine if my husband didn't keep such a close eye on the depth of the bottle. I sleep for five hours a night maximum. This is my vice. This blog and two others that I visit on a regular basis, usually while working.
12:15, while I certainly don't want to sound like that sanctimommy who couldn't fathom that not everyone in the world has nearby trustworthy relatives who are available for free unlimited babysitting 24/7, I have to say your career path as you describe it doesn't sound worthy of devoting so much of your life to. I hope this is just because I'm not seeing the full picture.
ReplyDeleteI got the apple- But that cattiness is part of "our" charm. What would people like you (and me at times) do on here if it weren't those who are endlessly suffering from PMS and conceit? We'd be everso bored.
ReplyDeleteAll Caps comments will be deleted.
ReplyDeleteOMG she parked crooked in a spot???

ReplyDeleteWhat about your kids?
you don't have to engage kids ALLLLL the time
ReplyDeletethey'll survive if you're not constantly doing stuff with them, in fact it encourages them to be imaginative and entertain themselves
it spoils them if you're constantly doing stuff with them
yes, children don't need you to do things with them all of the time. But you don't know this child. Maybe this time was delegated for playtime. Maybe this nanny was supposed to engage him. Maybe this child is in OT or PT and the nanny is reporting to the parents that she is playing X and Z with him. Unless you are the parents of the child, what you think does not really matter. Some of us want more for our children. And some of us- some of us angry that youth has escaped us seek to punish our own children by looking for ways to inflict hardship and suffering upon them.
ReplyDeletewell.. if my opinion doesn't matter...neither does yours, so why did you even respond? to tell me that I don't matter?
ReplyDeletegee...thanks
Nice to finally know dads are gettin' some from somewhere lol
ReplyDeleteugly is as ugly does (or in this case, says)
