Negligent Nanny Sighting:
I am a nanny and I consider this urgent. Your nanny was at the above mentioned library this morning with her daughter, and your son. The nanny is about 5'2", thin, and Chinese and was speaking Chinese with another woman who had her own charge. Your son, about 2 years old and possibly multi-race with light brown hair (& part Asian) was taking care of himself at the library. I know the little boy is not her son because another nanny told me that only the little girl was her child.

Around 11:00 am, your nanny went into the restroom with her daughter, and left your toddler son outside the door, with the door closed for about five minutes. When the nanny got out of the restroom, she proceeded to read a book to her daughter while your son roamed much of the entire floor unsupervised for at least five minutes. A Caribbean nanny yelled out several times "Who is supposed to be watching this child?" Finally your nanny got up and ran to your son, and the Caribbean nanny said to your nanny "You need to keep an eye on this child", but your nanny screamed something at the Caribbean nanny, and everyone looked on in shock.

Please drop in on your nanny as soon as possible. Take tomorrow off from work if you can. Your child is being neglected. To everyone: If you know someone who lives on the UWS and has a little multi-race 2 year old boy who is being taken care of by a Chinese nanny, please have them take a look at this post to see if this is their child.

  2. What kind of a comment is that?

  3. why was a 2-year-old at the library, anyway? Kids that small can't read. He was probably bothering the homeless people.

    ReplyDelete
  4. So I guess you can speak "Chinese" since you just knew the nanny was in fact, "Chinese"...how ignorant are you?

Anyway, 2 years olds can be at the library...what kind of thinking is that?! It's never too early to start showing and teaching children about the written word.

  5. My kids liked to go to "Storytime" at the library when they were quite young.
However, I kept an eye on them so as not to 1) have anybody get kidnapped or hurt, and 2) not bother the other people there.

I grew up in a very wealthy seaside community in California. One day my sister brought her boyfriend and his 3 year old sister to the house. She was a beautiful, bright eyed, blonde haired little girl. I asked her what her name was. She just looked at me and did not react. I asked her some other simple questions and she only looked at me. I became alarmed that maybe she was deaf or in some other way handicapped. I looked at my sister in alarm and asked what was wrong with her. My sister said, "Talk to her in Spanish." My spanish is limited, but I asked her name, to which she immediatley brightened and told me in spanish, "My name is...." I asked every other question I could ask in spanish and she answered every one quickly and without a moment's hesitation...all in spanish. Again I looked to my sister in amazement. I said, "How does she not speak any English when her family speaks ONLY English?" She told me that the parents were literally almost never with the child, and so she had learned to speak only the language of her nanny, who was non-english speaking. Tragic. Her family was literally unable to communicate with her. Can you imagine what happened when this poor little girl started school and didn't even know the language? This was when I was a teenager...long before they had ESL* (*English as a Second Language Programs) in schools.

Are you kidding about your post? I stared reading to my son since he was two week old.

  7. No child is too young for the library.

And 2:52, many people can tell the different between Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc.

Don't be so ignorant as to assume that others are being ignorant.

It amuses me how so many people sit on here insulting others just for the sake of drama.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 2:33 must have a full time nanny. Of course babies and toddlers love to be read to. My baby girl held books up to her face and babbled into them long before she could even talk. She knew what they were for, even if she didn't understand the words yet!

  9. 2:52pm,

Aunty Rhea is right. Many people in ethnically diverse cities can tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc. You don't even have to be a member of these groups to know the differences in the spoken languages or written characters.

    ReplyDelete
  10. that wasnt a nanny...it was my mom

    ReplyDelete
  11. Aunty Rhea, and 4:08,oh no no no!
I'm not trying to start drama! This pace is loaded with drama minus me! Just becuase you all, and others in ethnically diverse cities can tell the differance in what part of Asia people come from, doesn't mean everyone can, and it doesn't mean the OP can, too. It is, still in fact, ignorant to assume someone is from a certain part of the country because of their look. Does that mean when we see blonde hair, blue eyed people all over the world, it's safe to say they're from Spain? What are the various charecteristics of Chinese, Korean,Japenese, and Vietnamese people? How can you tell they're different? Please, enlighte me so that I can do the same thing.

  12. OP here, I am well travelled and happen to understand Chinese and several other international languages. I am sorry if anyone is offended. I am very very sorry. It is my first time on this site, and I put up my post hoping to help the neglected little boy. It was not my intention to offend anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 5:05 you should gt a dictionary and get your frustrations out on it. It is not OP's fault that you are too stupid to understand anything other than the Roman alphabet. Get a grip! PMS?

    ReplyDelete
  14. OP, thank you for your post. Did you by any chance catch the name of the child?

    ReplyDelete
  15. All the Asian languages are very different in their own way. I don't speak any languages besides English and Irish but I watch a lot of Asian cinema so I can tell the difference pretty much straight away. There's just a few little nuances, such as a double-barrel name (like San-Sung Park) means the person is most likely Korean, and using a lot of 'sh' sounds is Mandarin Chinese. There's a big difference between Irish and Welsh, but the amount of people that have mistaken me for a Welsh person when I speak Irish is unbelievable.

Back to the post, I think it's lovely that the Caribbean nanny was looking out for the baby. Good nanny instincts, I would have done the very same.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Unfortunately, I did not catch the name of the child. It was such a wierd situation, and it was a relief when the Caribbean nanny showed more guts than the rest of us and said something.

    ReplyDelete
  17. OP, good post. I hope the mom sees it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 2:52
The OP said the nanny was SPEAKING Chinese. I think most people who live in large cities can distinguish Chinese from other Asian languages, even if they can't tell if it is Cantonese, or Mandarin etc. Best not to throw the word ignorant, it may boomerang.

    ReplyDelete
  19. OP.....EXCELLENT post. Thanks......'hope the parents find out.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 9:23,
"Utism"??? Please do a quick proof of your writing before you hit send. Also, a message in all caps indicates shouting. What a lovely person you must be.

    ReplyDelete
  21. And to OP, you did a great job. Please ignore all the side ugliness. The welfare of the child or children in question seems to be routinely lost amid the thin skins of many of the commentators.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 9:23 you are an embarrassment to women...and to humans.

  26. what do you wanna bet that 9:23 has man breasts? That's no woman who wrote that, just some ignorant beer-bellied redneck.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sagging breasts is probably a sociopath. If we IGNORE it completely it will become bored and go away. Emotional reactions to its posts will only encourage it. Just IGNORE

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jane Doe: Please delete the 9:23 comment--very offensive.

    ReplyDelete
  29. LOL, I was still wondering what an utism was.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 5:21, eat it....your little wannabe "put downs" do nothing for me, or for you for that matter. Maybe you should consider your PMS theory.

I still stand by my original point. Just because many feel they can tell what someones nationality is by looking at them, doesn't mean they should know what land they originated.

Also, I didn't read the post thoroughly-I wasn't aware that the Chinese woman actually spoke, and that the OP understood the language.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, don't be so thin skinned..
we accept that you've learned your lesson and will now read the Original Posts more carefully.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 9:06
Des any of this have ANYTHING to do with the subject at hand. WHO CARES!!!???

    ReplyDelete
  33. 9:53...you're right, I shouldn't be so thin skinned, and I did learn my lesson. I will once again waste my time and read the original post and plan on purchasing thicker skin so that I can deal with useless smart alec comments from people that hide behind their computer screens and pretend to be "big dogs" whilst constantly putting others downn to make themselves feel and 'look' good. Thank you for that...lesson learned.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 5:05: I try to be at least somewhat diplomatic, but your ignorance is just baffling to me. I had to say something.

Cali Mom...Here's something funny. On that Utism comment, I at first did not notice the detatched "A" so I googled utism and it is, in fact a word...or at least one in cyberspace. It means "Us vs. Them." Obviously not what the commenter menat, but I just found it amusing.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I find it amazing that people are worked up on the OP describing a nanny as Chinese (who screamed at someone in the library in Chinese, btw), but think nothing of describing a nanny as Mexican, Central American, Carribean, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 5:05....don't listen to these people. I'm Japanese, and speak ENGLISH. However, I still get the "It's that chinese chick over there" description all of the time. You're no where near ignorant. These people just want to be right, and think they know everything...this is obviously, FALSE, Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  37. oh pipe down, seriously. Give OP a break- she was trying to do good. Too many trolls and liberals pissing on this blog today.

OP, I just saw this description given of someone the police need to identify.
"Police described the man as an Asian who speaks Cantonese, between 25 and 35 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches and weighing anywhere from 150 to 170 pounds.

Police said he is known to wear sunglasses and a baseball cap when committing the robberies."

  38. 5:05pm, you need to up your meds. Obviously, you and all the people that are defending you are exactly the same person. One minute you are some close minded inbred idiot that has no clue about other languages, the next minute you are a Japanese woman who speaks only English. No matter how many times you reinvent yourself, you are still transparent. 3:38pm is right, you need to pipe down, and get a hobby. I know a lot of Chinese who are proud of who they are, so what's your problem.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh, God, what is wrong with you people? The ones posting negative thoughts because they think they're GODand know everything (ie. knowing when an Asian person is Chinese, or a black person is African, duh), are ridiculous...Go and hit the bottle like you usually do and get some rest. The world is burning up, there are beter thinhgs to do. Don't get angry because someone believes differently from you. You're just as ignorant for saying someone is ignorant. Grow up!

    ReplyDelete
  40. What is the cause of the upset? The description was perfectly acceptable. Please do not trounce on the OPs. We should be grateful to anyone who takes the time to report a bad nanny and the last thing they should have to face unwarranted critisism.

Thanks OP. I hope the parent of this child finds her way to this post of this information.

    ReplyDelete
  41. meme, u always get it right

    ReplyDelete
  42. 11:53...thanks

3:03...are you new here? Although it has not been too bad lately, there is at least one big blow up weekly over the way someone refers to a nanny or child's race. This is not reserved for the Chinese nanny.

    ReplyDelete
  43. WHY is this blog so racist?

    so WHAT if you're caribbean?
    who CARES if you're black?
    I'm caribbean AND black

    so what
I'm still a HUMAN BEING who happens to watch your bratty little children while you go get massages

    ReplyDelete
  44. 1222-
well that is hardly reassuring that young children are left alone with you.

the blog is not racist. it is necessary to physically describe a person so that their employer recognizes them.

    Go in peace, young one.

  45. I am white but have Asian friends live in NYC downtown and can absolutely pretty much distinguish between different Asian ethnicities, can recognize the way different languages sound. I can tell if someone is speaking Chinese (I admit cannot tell if Cantonese or Mandarin or Fujian for instance).

    ReplyDelete
  46. Word! Some people are having a hard time understanding that Asians too do come in different colors, skin tones, and languages. I can't believe someone is throwing a fit because the OP who lives in a big city and understands Chinese described a woman she observed (and who also spoke Chinese) as Chinese. I live in NYC too, and even though I can't read much outside the English alphabet, I know when I am looking at Chinese, Korean, Japanese, or Sinhalese written characters.

  47. somebody should start a website name- kids i say your mommy-
    Kids. I saw your mommy
    1. chatting on the phone while you play alone and texting messages
2.not paying your nanny for long hours and extra time
    3. not giving time for your nanny to rest and have meals and coffe break.
    4. not having suitable foods in the house or giving food allowance.
    5. not treating the nanny as a person.
Kids tell your mommy to work as a nanny for somebody and see how she likes to be treated... being spy on by strangers. When nanny do the same as what your mommy does.. it is wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  48. They have a website. no one has the balls to tell their stories.
    http://badmamas.blogspot.com

I should note that it is entirely different for a mom to be on her cellphone. A nanny is being paid to do a job for a certain number of hours. A mom is on 24 hours a day. Still, many moms suck.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think 9:34 might be the Asian nanny in question. Look at how the sentences are worded. And she sounds defensive.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 12:06...I am usually one of the first ones to be annoyed by those who try to guess race, etc., but on this one I think you may have a point here.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 9:34pm needs to get a life. Just because some nannies are working under subhuman conditions (and ought to quit) does not mean that we have to tolerate stupid nanny behavior. Two wrongs don't make things right. There should be a site for those who try to divert from the issue at hand.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Are you kidding 9:34 "not having suitable foods in the house or giving food allowance". Many nannies make $15-$20 per hour off the books. You want food allowance on top of that? How many work places do you know where they stock up food for their employees? Try working for the city, and you will get $12 per hour, taxes taken out, and no food allowance.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Remember nannies don't get a 30 minute lunch or rest period. Even if its 12o'clock they can't clock out for lunch. They have to stay in the house with the kids.

Maybe, $12 hour isn't top pay. But more likely your being offered health benefits, 401k, accrued vacation, and a pension. How many nannies have that?

Are there any nannies that have health coverage thru work or at least partially paid.

Hope this makes sense its late here

    thanks

    ReplyDelete
  54. true, even part of the health coverage still gets taken out of the $12/hr. Some people end up with a really small paycheck, and take home pay is reduced to $6 per hour after all the health coverage deductions, flexible spending account deductions, retirement. taxes. Funny that 9:24 wants to be fed too. Entitled much? I am a nanny, and I get a lot of deductions out of my $20/hr pay, and I pay for my own lunch and transportation.
