...From today's New York Post...
A pall of fear has descended over a tony TriBeCa park as reports of a suspected predator approaching children has led panicked parents to appeal for better security. (Read full article.)

Elin Hilderbrand’s latest novel, “Barefoot,” is her sixth beach read set against the backdrop of Nantucket and its people.
If you are going to buy a beach read with a manny involved, this is the one to buy. Hint. Hint.
ReplyDeleteregarding the park incident... very helpful to know; the article irritated me because it uses the terms nanny/au pair/babysitter interchangably.
ReplyDelete12:06, what do you expect? It's The Post! hee hee
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine almost had his daughter snatched at Prospect Park last weekend. I wonder if this guy is making rounds of the city parks, trying to snatch random children? My friend filed a police report! I hope all nannies and babysitters are extra vigilant this summer.
ReplyDeleteis this the guy who was using a puppy? that was bogus or not? I know somoeone wrote in to complain that it was bogus and the 'poor guy; was dragged down to the station but maybe the 'poor guy' wrote the complaint to the blog!
ReplyDeleteThis book is rated M for Manny.
ReplyDeleteAs in this ridculous new obsession with mannies. Sadly born of bitter women who think bringing a handsome young male in their house is a good idea. In reality, that handsome young male is either going to be after your little girl or your little boy. Not the over 40 woman.
I am really opposed to propogating this fad. How many more crimes against children will this lead to?
I blame Tinsley.
I don't know anybody who has a manny, male babysitter or male au-pair. Are there any statistics or cases where the male carer was a predator.. Somehow I would not feel comfortable leaving my child with a male carer, I may be paranoid but then again I would not be cofortable with a man caring for my baby.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that mannies= predators is an urban myth or real, just curious.
I had a male sitter when I was younger, for me and my younger brother. We loved him, he was one of the best we had. The female sitter, she used to throw parties at my house (great party house, looking back) and hide it from my parents!
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I would probably only hire a male sitter if I knew him. If I felt really comfortable with someone, I may hire a manny, but I would install cameras, and tell him that. But I also plan to have cameras and let all sitters/ or nannies know about them regardless of the gender.
This is a tough one though.
This is a terrible incident, but it also proves what I've said (and posted) about WMP in the past. The moms, dads (because a SAHD is not that rare a thing in Tribeca) and caregivers are pretty much on the ball here.
ReplyDeleteAnnie,
ReplyDeleteJust curious about this-
what is with Tribeca? In my lifetime I have met 6 or 7 nannies from Tribecca and their employers/families. Without fail, every Tribeca nanny has been sharp as a tack, had a wonderful sense of humor that could border on zany and seemed to always have impossible control over her charges. The employers/families- who were aquaintances or friends of mine always seemed to relish their role as parents, live for their children and shout the praises of their nannies on a daily basis.
