B75 bus in Park Slope, Brooklyn

Received Monday, June 11, 2007
This is not a nanny sighting. It involved a conversation I overheard that caused me some discomfort. This was Saturday, around 6 PM. Your nanny, a mid-late twenties, AA female who is of average height & weight was sitting on the bus when I got on. She was sitting next to another female and the nanny was complaining about her boss. I know this is not unusual. However when she repeatedly described your children as brats that just needed to 'have their necks rung and know what suffering is' ; I paid more attention. Your nanny absolutely hates you. If you knew the venom with which she spoke of you, I cannot imagine you would allow her to continue in your employ. One of the things that may help you identify this as your nanny is that you are taking four weeks of vacation this year and so the nanny gets those four weeks as her time off. They are four individual weeks, but the nanny is pissed and thinks she should get those 4 weeks but also two weeks at her own choosing. She went on to say, and please allow me to paraphrase this because I obviously could not take notes, "F---g rich b-tch, all she cares about is her next botox injection...I get paid crap and I am the parent figure in that house...When them kids misbehave, what does she expect I would stand there and take it...What that kid need is some discipline... It went on and on like this, but with such rage- I find it concerning that she is left alone with your children. According to her, she is with the children all day and some days you both get home when the children are asleep. She many times referenced you as rich people who could afford to pay more and many times referenced your children as animals. This woman who works as a nanny then went on to "wish" that the next time the cops pulled a "Sean Bell" that it would be one of these "park slope kids" that got killed. I hope this helps you to identify your very disgruntled nanny. She remained on the bus when I got off. I couldn't wait to get off that bus and away from her. When I walked past her, I did NOT turn around to get a better look.

  1. Well, yes the nanny sounds horrible. However, it's sad but she is probably right about the mom. The mom probably does see her as a slave and beneath her. I don't care what anyone says, if you are a nanny, the family more often than not doesn't respect you. It's unprofessional and wrong of the nanny to vent in public about it, but the truth hurts. And the mom probably is a rich bitch. The kids probably are monsters.

  2. I don't see how anyone can identify this nanny with no description-nothing. The 4 weeks vacation means nothing. I know a lot of people in this neighborhood who get that much vacation time.

  3. Great, The Thought Police are riding the busses now. Apparently blowing off some steam is a major felony.

  4. 11:37:

I don't know who is more pathetic, the nanny the op described or you.

I've never met a young child who is a "monster," but when I do it will probably because they've been co-raised by a nanny like this.

If the nanny in question wants to get paid more, she should educate herself, stop talking ghetto trash and develop a work ethic.

If she doesn't like the gig, she should find the exit. Truth is, she knows she's not worth even her current salary, so that's why she sticks around. She hates herself as much as she hates her employer.

The majority of Park Slope parents pay at least market rate. The truth is, this loser nanny wants exactly what her employer has, without ever having to work for it.

    Cry me a river!

  5. if you cant take it change jobs....
talking like this about children is just wrong

    ReplyDelete
  6. wishing for the cops to pull a "sean bell" on some innocent park slope children, perhaps even the ones she is caring for- that is an awful and ugly thought.

I wouldn't trust this nanny to help my child across the street. I wouldn't want her in my home.

Maybe you cannot know who this nanny is by the defnition however if you are giving your nanny 4 weeks vacation and she doesn't get to choose and she is this upset about it, might you not have some clue? Because if not, that is even scarier. I can just imagine this nanny taking care of a collicy baby.

To "the police are riding the buses". No. People who are concerned about other people are everywhere. And when it involves the what if of "might happen to a child", I am glad she wrote in.

  7. Wgy does rich always tranfers to " rich bitch"? Look at the hostility this division of class breeds. That is one of the many reasons I always advise hiring Americans. If you look at some of these nannies, for example in Park Slope- do you think the parents would be happy to spend 10 hours a day in their company? So why is it okay for their child to? It isn't.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I can't believe someone is actually defending this loser! If the nanny is so great and her job is so terrible, why doesn't she go out and get the great, high paying job she thinks she deserves? She's obviously not sticking around because she loves the kids.

  9. I've been a nanny for six years for a family with three children. There have been times when my boss has really hurt my feeling, unintentionally shorted me on money and I am sure I have rubbed her the wrong way to. We had actual actual disagreements over who said what. There was a time she didn't speak to me for a week.
(I bowed out on an agreement to babysit a saturday night). I waited it out. I knew she was mad and I thought she had a right to be mad. She's even made me cry before. Her children are as close to my own as I've ever had. I would never call them brats, even if they were having a temper tantrum. And I'm happy my boss is rich. She pays me well. The nanny/boss relationship isn't ever perfect. But I don't know many other people that have as tight a relationship as we do. This nanny should not be working with children. Childcare is NOT the field for her.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It doesn't matter if she was spotted at the playground, on the bus, or in Cancun. This nanny is not worth defending. Wishing a violent death on anyone is just plain evil. Too bad her boss may not be able to identify her using the given description. I hope she gets caught soon and gets fired.

  11. Wah cry me a river. Get over it so she was talking about her employers she was probaly blowing off steem really who hasn't.All my friends do is complain about thier bosses...But she should not have talked about the kids that way you keep that crap to yourself even if you think it you don't say it outloud...

  12. 3:49:

If you wish a shooting upon a child, whether it's verbally or not, don't you maybe think you should get your head examined?

Anyone who defends this piece of snot nanny should check themselves into an asylum immediately.

You don't belong around kids. You belong in a padded & locked room.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 3:49 well you need to get yourself new friends then. If your friends are complaining about their jobs in this manner and with this level of anger and are too lazy to CHANGE jobs, then they're nothing but losers. And if you're even thinking the CHILDREN you're watching are animals, definitely time for a new job.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maggie, you seem to be stating that somehow the poor and/or black are not "American". Your statement is confusing. Also the poor and/or black citizens of America are sometimes hostile towards the rich white "Americans" because of some very real and justifiable reasons. You should try and consider this. By the way I do agree with the last part, you should only leave your children with someone who you yourself would enjoy the company of.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Look people. They were WORDS!!!! So the f*** what! Goodness. She did not sit on the bus and say she was going to shoot these kids. She can't wish it? So now when I tell my friend I am going to kill my husband she should call the police on me? Look you don't know what these kids do. She can be talking out of stress, anger, maybe she is just tired. Its called freedom of speech. Maybe you missed 5th grade history when they taught it. Get over it and next time don't listen so hard you might hear something you don't want too!

  16. There is a big difference between blowing off steam about your job at say a law firm, and a nanny who is directing much of her resentment at the children she cares for. If she doesn't nurture them in a loving way, they are being emotionally, and possibly physically abused.
As someone said, childcare is not the right field for this woman!
The employer of this nanny may very well be a miserable person to work for. Good nannies can be selective about the families they work for, and will not stay in an unhappy situation. Sadly for their children, bad employers generally end up with lousy nannies.
    A Nanny

    ReplyDelete
  17. I regret if it came across that way. There is nothing to justify the reprehensible things said by this individual on the bus. If you hire a legal nanny who is educated beyond highschool, perhaps even college educated - everyone wins. The stupid decisions parents make to save themselves money are decsions that will negatively affect their children down the line. And by that, I refer specifically to the high volume of people who hire illegal or just legalized nannies. They have no verfiable nanny experience. A parent cannot even run an applicable background check on that person. I don't have the time to clarify this point or argue it. Suffice to say, I am correct.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Since this sighting was Saturday, and I haven't heard any reports of a nanny taking a brickbat to a bunch of kids, I think all of you can stop hyperventilating. I don't think this is more than an overworked or disgruntled employee mouthing off. BIG DEAL. And no, I don't see the difference between a nanny and a law firm employee.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 4:25 do you know how stupid you sound? I am sorry that not everyone can have the "perfect" job. If you have a family to support you can't just quit a job because you don't like it. I have friends who hate their jobs as well and they have families to support. So maybe I should not hang out with them anymore because of it. I have a stressful job and I HATE it. My boss is always on my ass and I can't stand her. I also have a daughter who is autistic and I need my health insurance. So because I hate my boss and my job and I complain to my friends, I am lazy because I can't just quit. So think about that affects not only me but the people around me. Sit back and think about how that would affect you. EVEN if it was planned. You comment made me mad.

    ReplyDelete
  20. There is a huge difference between a nanny and a lawfirm partner. If you don't know that, then you don't have a nanny!
In which case, I am guessing you are one. So get back to work.

    ReplyDelete
  21. All I have to say is some people on this board are stupid. Are you kidding me? The chic was mad about something. Picture this, you go to work and your boss is having the worst day, she takes it out on you ALL day long. What is the FIRST thing you are going to do? Go home and vent to #1. your husband, boyfriend, roomate ect. and then your best friend. People thats all she was doing. If you all pull the sticks out of your asses you can see that. You all are hell bent into making this woman seem like a monster. Get off her ass.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I work for one of the biggest bitches in fashion. I have never wished death on her. And I certainly would never wish death on her children. Because yes, that would make me a monster.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thats your problem 6:19. Your the idiot for putting up with it. If you weren't such a flake maybe she wouldn't be such a bitch to you....think.about.that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 625, you sound like you could go postal any minute. do you need help?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maggie do me a favor and don't have an opinion anymore. Everytime you post on here you sound more and more stupid. My mother was a very successful doctor in Venezeula. She went to one of the best schools over there. She lives in America now and has to work as a nanny. She is waiting to be legal so she can practice medicine in America. Are you saying shes stupid?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alina,
    I agree with Maggie.
I think your mother is the exception to the rule. I am surprised by the number of people who come here from the Caribbean and get jobs immediately as nannies. They don't have nanny experience, in fact, most of the time they have left their own children in their country to come here. And while I appreciate the work ethic that that may connotate for some; I still don't think these people should be working as nannies. A professional nanny has training and a true regard for children. The "nannies" on this board are not the sort of nanny I would let through my door. In fact they aren't the sort of nanny my nanny would even accept a playdate with!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Okay I appreciate your comment but at the same time these women have to make a living some how. What is a "professional nanny" anyway? Just because you went to school to learn about children does not mean that you are professional. I have a 3 year old daughter. What I have learned in 3 years in experience is WAY more than someone who has gone to school to learn about childcare and has no children.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Maggie get a clue. There are many nannies out there who have a higher education and come from a different country-you think 'you're correct' I think you're ignorant and full of shit.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 6:03 So do you have violent and threatening thoughts towards CHILDREN you are responsible for taking care of in your job? If you do then, yes, you do have an obligation to quit.

And and I have absolutely no sympathy for people who'd rather bitch and moan than do anything to change their circumstances. If they're that lazy in taking control of their own lives they are no doubt just as lazy (if not more so) in their jobs so is it any wonder their bosses don't exactly love them?

    ReplyDelete
  30. There is no "exception to the rule" Sterotypes are usually wrong. It has been proven by psychology. Anyway, this girl needs a new job. Let's not crucify her. I am a white female from an upper class home...but I do not condone this OBVIOUS bashing of minorities that takes place here. It seems that you have to be a working mother from an Upper Middle Class family with a nanny to be free from sterotypes and ugly slurs.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 730, aline and maggie:
    a professional nanny is:
    over 21
    a US Citizen
    has a driver's liscence.
    has a passport.
    has a college education.
has first aid & cpr training.
    is an experienced swimmer.

All of this in addition to being kind, patient, empathetic, creative, honest, intelligent and reliable.

    Since you asked.
And I don't think most of the nannies that have been "bad nanny sightings" have any of this.

    It isn't about discriminating.
It is about taking the extra steps to chose the very best childcare for your children in the event you are unable to sahm.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 7:39 are you that stupid? You don't get the point now do you. Its not that easy to just quit a job because you are unhappy. Apparently you have the IQ of a dog so I am not going to debate the issue with you. Your just a dumb bitch...plain and simple.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 7:39,
you cant possibly think that someone who thinks it is okay to wish death upon the children she takes care of or to call them animals and brats has any morals, right? Such a person is obviously not bound by any obligations.

That is why it is the parents responsibility to hire a good nanny and treat her with respect and kindness. And if you get the faintest hint that you have a disgruntled child hating psycho in your midst-kick her to the curb.

    Immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think 8:45 would be our nanny in question. I can tell by the ghetto talk.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I really can't stand Maggie. She seems like an elitist jerk. I can't think of a person I would less like to meet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never posted on this blog before but I am concerned by some of the nannies I have observed since moving to NYC. The nannies spend all day with your children but don't even speak proper English. They set terrible examples by the language they use, the way they dress, the music they listen to and their non stop littering. These woman have no sense of etiquette at all. Thank goodness I can stay home with my own child.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 10:01:

Again, you're talking about the ghetto trash.

Educated nannies do not dress and behave in such a manner.

I'm all about the mature Euros, personally.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 8:45, it seems you shouldn't be pointing fingers at stupidity. Yes it may not be easy, but don't you think you deserve to have a job you enjoy? It is possible, employees just need to fight for their rights to work a job they enjoy and then do it. You are the "stupid" one if you think that staying in a job you hate for life makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ahhhh.. poor Maggs.
    :)

She's actually quite lovely & one of the kindest & most generous people I know.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thats funny your talking about "ghetto" because you ignorant white people use it to describe someone below you. The word was actually created by Jewish people during the Holocaust. So when you describe someone as "ghetto" you are describing a situation, not an action. African Americans embraced the word to describe their living situations during the Civil Rights Movement, not an action like you people call it. So when you describe someone as "ghetto" you are not only refering to an African American, you are refering to the Jews, who created the word as well. You make no sense....

    ReplyDelete
  41. 8:45 others have answered you better than I could have. I'm just praying right now that your job doesn't require you to work with children. It also sounds like you're overwhelmed by your responsibilities so for the sake of your own children I hope you get some help for your anger issues.

    ReplyDelete
  42. In 2007 in the USA, there are 2 definitions of the word ghetto.

    1) a section of a city occupied by members of a minority group who live there because of social restrictions on their residential choice.

    2) used to describe expensive items that peope who deal drugs or aquire money quickly MUST have. Examples of those things ghetto would be an Escalade, a logo bag, 24K gold faucet fixtures and most anything prada.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Regardless if there are 2 different definitions for it, it shouldn't be used. White people can no longer use the N word to describe things so everything that AA do is described as "ghetto", how do you talk "ghetto". how do you act "ghetto"? Explain that. My point is, is that white people love to use that word and they have no idea what it means. It pisses me off. The minute any minorities get "labeled" as a thing or an action. White people jump on really quick. If someone were to start calling blacks or hispanics ice cubes, white people would use that word. Thats my point.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You sound like an angry liberal.
If you know how to speak proper English, use your skills and your bledding heart to teach those around you how to speak properly.

It is a fact that people are judged by the way they speak. Knowing that, why do some people go out of their way to speak so poorly?

More importantly, why on earth are these people working in a position where they are modeling language for young children?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Some of you sound as bad tempered as the nanny!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh please! It's the user of the word "ghetto" here.

First of all, you are the one assuming that all people who live in ghettos are minorities. What does that say about you? I'll tell you what it says. It says that you're not very educated and that you suffer from low self esteem.

These days the word "ghetto" is often used to describe someone who behaves in a low-class, obnoxious manner. It can also be used to describe an object or a look (1 pant leg rolled up or tucked into a sock is ghetto).

The nanny in the op is clearly "ghetto" no matter how you slice it. She uses threats, has the "woe is me" mentality (blames everyone but herself for her position in life) & doesn't speak proper English.

I guarantee I could tell you what she was wearing without ever having laid eyes on her. And that's not because I'm a psychic.

I would never hire anyone who acted ghetto to care for my kids.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 11:11 no one is angry. Look, thats not "acting ghetto". The definition that 10:50 uses does not answer the question. Your response proves my point.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Arguing this makes you sound "so ghetto". On Urban Baby, they posted a definition of a HOODRAT NANNY from Urban Dictionary. Look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 7:18 you seem to have some issues, get some help quick. Your bias and racist remarks scares the hell out of me. What are you teaching your children? So because you "speak" properly that makes you a better person? You probably use the n word on a regular basis and hold secret KKK meetings in your basement. I am AA and when I went to law school I spoke better english than most of the white people in my class. Seeing as every other word that is used by you people is "like". Very smart. You are the most ignorant person I have ever met and I hope you never have children. Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Let's get back on track. Ok. It is unfair to generalize people by the color of their skin, where they were born or where they live. Anyone participating in such a discussion should really examine themselves.

As for this post and the nanny involved, I believe OP when she says she would not normall listen but tuned in because of the rage.
I would not want this person in my home and I would hope I would be able to see the signs that she was unhappy.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Emily, its unfair but it happens. Yes the nanny was wrong, but this turned into something ugly really quickly because of her race. No one is better than anyone else. If you are an AA nanny everything you do is going to be picked at, and people are going to watch you like a hawk. Regardless, this nanny was wrong for making the comments but not wrong for expressing her disgust and annoyance with her job.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Emily,
I don't think AA's are picked a part. I think what this nanny said was reprehensible. I find it alarming that she would complain repeatedly about her employer's wealth and then suggest of all things that the cops shoot a Park Slope child and make a reference to Shawn Bell. People like that have their own issues they project on others. She sounds like a horrible and frightening person. The kind of person who should not be working around children. I don't care what color her skin is.
She sounds like a vile human being.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love this website all everybody does is bitch i am so glad i am not a nanny.I t makes for great entertaiment.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Emily, it's "apart (one word)," not "a part (two words)." Signed, AA Nanny

    ReplyDelete
  55. 7:18 here.

Use your brain for 2 seconds, 7:54. You claim you're educated so I bet if you concentrate & try hard to understand you might succeed. By the way, I personally don't speak of formal schooling when I speak of education -- you can educate yourself without a fancy college degree. Anyone is capable of elevating their thinking.

It's not the skin color, it's the behavior that is GHETTO. Got it?

Trust me -- the op would not have to have mentioned skin tone for me to know exactly what she sort of person she was describing.

If I "scare the hell out of you" you should know that the feeling is mutual.

You are unable to see reality. You're programmed to chirp the same old stupidity as an excuse for bad behavior.

    Doesn't work with me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. AA nanny,
    It's a typo.
But I am just touched that you are paying such attention to each and every word I write.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The issue here should not be about this woman being AA. The issue here is that this woman should not be in childcare. She is an evil person to wish such thing on a child. No good person would say something like that no matter how upset they are with their boss or anyone else for that matter. It shouldn't even be a part of a person's thought process unless there is something mentally wrong with them.

Also, complaining about her boss being rich is not going to help her better herself. She can have just as much as her boss if she spent more time doing things that will get her there, rather than bitching about her boss being rich and a bitch.

Everybody wants to make millions but few want or are willing to do what's necessary to get it. Life is not fair ... get over it. This woman knew what she was getting into when she accepted the job. I'm sure that her boss didn't force her into it. Now she needs to do the job that she gets paid to do or leave.

However, it's my feeling that this woman has looked for something else but realizes that the grass is always greener on the other side. Deep down she knows that she is getting paid more than what she is worth, which is why she continues to complain instead of leaving.

I am truly afraid for these poor, innocent children being in this woman's care. Shame on her!

This is coming from an AA woman.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've been babysitting for years and years and I've even worked at an elementary school as a teacher's aide, and it's sad to say, but yes some children are monsters. And most parents are "less than greatful" for the services nannies babysitters and other childcare providers administer. I don't blame the nanny for being disgruntled.

    ReplyDelete
  59. 5:50 That nanny was not just "disgruntled" -- she was expressing homicidal ideation towards children in her care. Would you want your child looked after by someone like that? Actually, I shouldn't be surprised that you're defending this beast. Your years and years in education haven't taught you that it's "grateful", not "greatful" so you're obviously not the brightest crayon in the box.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think 2:04 is a winner! She's spot on.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 6:21 ... hee-hee. You got to her before I did.

    ReplyDelete
  62. A person who talks like this about CHILDREN should not be a NANNY!.If she is not happy with her employer then she should leave it at that, and not take it out on the children...what trash!
Ps. the parents should know better then to hire someone that talks like they just came from the ghetto.

    ReplyDelete
  63. op; you don't have a description, what was your point of posting?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I also think this nanny was just venting like one of the other comments said soud we call the police on someone when they say "i could kill you" jokingly. Alot of these parents are to blame for the way these nannys are acting. many of these nannys are form other countries and some do leave there children behind to make a better life in america. The problem is alot of the parents treat them as slaves and have little respect for them. Someone who is spending so much time with your children should be loved and respected they should be treated like family.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Methinks this ghetto trash babbler is just poor little Ax2. She was groveling for our attention on another thread a couple of nights ago and couldnn't get it so she's pulling out all the stops now.

better get back to the tiger attack board hon!
