Great Nanny Sighting in Central Park
This occurred on Monday, April 23, 2007. Nanny was African-American, wearing long sleeved blue shirt with jeans. Child was 15 month old, Derek, with a royal blue Bugaboo. He had a yellow bus toy that sang alphabet songs. Your nanny is very sweet with your son. I know there are a lot of bad nannies out there, but I wanted to let you know that this nanny was a good one (for the time I saw her). She was playing with him and talking to him and singing to him and she genuinely seemed to like spending time with him in the park.

  5. Pipe down, negative nelly. The blog is going to get plenty of nasty nanny sightings now that the weather has settled. I think we should try and embrace and encourage good sightings too!

  9. Yes, please continue with the good nanny sightings! Don't let the sour, negative imbeciles have any influence on this feature.

  12. A normal person seeing NORMAL, positve interaction between a child and a caregiver probably wouldnt post it on here. You would smile and go on your way. This "random stranger" knew the make of the stroller, kid's name and his exact age?? Seems fishy to me.

Any one who has ever been to a playground would recognize a Bugaboo. You hear caregivers addressing children by their names. When your kids interact, the first thing the other mom/nanny askes is how old is he/she. I'm guessing you don't log much time in the playground.
I agree though, this should be what we see all the time, not an exceptional nanny.

  14. Bugaboo strollers stand out - they cost $700 so they aren't something you see everywhere.

Generally adults converse with one another at the playgrounds and an obvious question tends to be "how old is the baby".

Names are easy to find out - they should be used when communicating with the child.

Also, as a nanny when someone says something like "what an adorable baby" I often respond with "thanks, I will be sure to let his parents know. I am his nanny"

  15. i'm the original poster...i saw a great interaction and wanted to post it, since i know how many bad nannies are out there. i'm a mom and was there with my children. i know i don't have to convince the naysayers, but it was a real sighting. and i saw her for a second day and it was just as lovely.

  16. This blog has made me more aware of just how many bad nannies there are out there, but at the same time I am keenly aware of good nanny sightings. If I saw something spectacular, I would post it!
