Child:Little girl with long brown hair, pink sweater, blue jeans, black flats, approximate age of 7.
Nanny: Nanny bears striking resemblance to the character actress who played Yolanda Saldivar {the woman who shot Selena in the movie Selena}. Short, slightly pudgy, short, rusty hair, striped shirt and black slacks, sensible shoes, approximate age 60.
Where: Seely Park in Scaramento, California
What: Child was getting yelled at in Spanish by a nanny wielding a hairbrush who was obviously upset that the little girl didn't have a hair tie with her. The nanny was brushing her hair out, quite roughly as indicated by the child who kept saying "ow, ow". I don't speak Spanish so I don't know what she said. The little girl didn't respond at all to the woman's Spanish Tirade so I would suppose she; that nanny is just another non English Speaking, off -the- books -bandit. The nanny demonstrated no love for the child, just hurried impatience. The child may take classes at nearby Sacramento Academy of Dance as the little girl was carrying a pink & white backpack and a pink & white duffel bag with rhinestone hearts on it. {Ballet uniform?}.
When: Tuesday at approximately 430 PM.
I know people who hire Spanish speaking employees (illegal none the less) and claim they are doing it just because they want their child to learn Spanish.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile.
Blek!
Yes, people hire illegal "nannies" because they will work long hours and do tons of cleaning for slave wages, have no legal recourse if they are mistreated, and they justify it by claiming they want their children to learn Spanish. They put their own comfort and convenience ahead of quality care for their children.
ReplyDeleteThat said, there are wonderful bilingual Spanish/English nannies. Clearly this is not one of the
Bilingual?
ReplyDeleteI think OR was talking about these nannies that speak ONLY spanish.
A lot of help they would be in an emergency. How can they even comfort a child? Or answer a question?
Ridiculous!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteA friend emailed this to me. I thought you should know that the lady you saw with my daughter is my mother. I did not grow up speaking spanish but hoped that my daughter would. I would also like to point out that she is here legally. It's a shame that people assume all hispanics have dark skin and dark complections. You might want to think twice about what you say when you see a light skinned child with a dark skinned person. For all you know it could be the child's parents. Nanny or not, children should listen to their elders, especially when it comes to self grooming.
Embarresed for you,
LL
Perhaps my dislike for non English speaking nannies showed in my post. However, I saw the nanny again on Thursday at 10:10 AM and she is So definitely a nanny. This was NOT your child and you are lying in some blanket attempt to right the world of stereotypes. Meanwhile there is a child out there with a very mean nanny. And worse, the nanny cares for younger children too. Which I saw her with and was going to add to the post just this morning when I saw your fraudulent post. You should be ashamed and you should learn how to spell embarrassed. Your goal is to keep this nanny on the streets engaging in abusive behavior with her charges?
ReplyDeleteShame on you!
Shame on you!
The children are innocent.
And if she is your mother, she should be dragged behind a bus for 100 feet!
"It's a shame that people assume all hispanics have dark skin and dark complections" ...the only true part to your story,310. I am hispanic and have red hair, white skin, freckles, and green eyes. Meh, other than that, your post is obviously a blatant lie.
ReplyDeleteI think the inability to speak English and the cursing in Spanish is what led OP to think this nanny was Hispanic!
ReplyDelete3:10
ReplyDeleteYah, you are pretty transparent.
P A T H E T I C
and even if that was your mother, if your daughter doesn't speak spanish- then why would you leave her with her? what about emergencies?
ReplyDeleteAnd we all know that anyone who spends time around spanish speakers in their family pick up Spanish.
You are a vile liar.
You should have a bumper sticker on your ass that says,
"I helped abuse a child today"
LL,
ReplyDeleteNo one emailed you jackshit.
I am so hesitant to comment on these posts for all of the hateful spew that comes out of the keyboards belonging to numerous anonymous posters. But in this case I must:
ReplyDeleteFirstly, there is nothing abusive about being irritated at a child who forgot something.
Secondly, there is no reason to believe that the nanny does not speak English, and there is no reason to believe that the little girl and her family do not also speak and/or understand Spanish. Indeed, it would be hard to secure a nanny job with a family when you have no means by which you could communicate.
And finally, I am often disturbed by the amount of racism and hateful, xenophobic language that seems to be so easily accepted on this website. It's very easy to spew out that sort of drivel from behind the screen of anonymity that exists in cyberspace. I still find it appalling. African Americans are either "that particular kind of islander that we all know about" or "thuggish" and Latina persons are often "off-the-books illegals." Even au pairs are "just looking to marry some man before they get shipped off."
I am not a nanny, babysitter, or mother. I do, however, work with children. I am a white girl raised in the deep South and even I (who have likely seen more racist displays in my life than most) find these sorts of generalizations unacceptable.
Well free speech or no free speach? Where does one draw the line? I recognize some hate speech on many blogs I visit. Sometimes people even get banned for spewing their mean words. Is that the answer?
ReplyDeleteI just don't give any credit to the credibility or character of people who qualify their comments with biggoted comments. To me, they are irrelevant. Moot.
6:39. Well said. You are wrong about one point however. some nannies who don't speak English do secure jobs with families they can't communicate with.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been a little girl with long hair having it brushed out by an irritated mother or whoever? I recall my own mother doing this to me, and also, being impatient when I moved my head, she would hit me on the head with the hairbrush. It wasn't fun. It hurt. I think I remember saying "ow" or "ouch".
ReplyDeleteSo, Southern Girl 6:39, pull your head out of your butt, 'cuz there are nannies who can barely communicate with their employers since they DO NOT speak English but for a few words here and there. Also, no matter how irritated you get at a child for forgetting something, you don't rough the child up while brushing his or her hair to get even or to punish. When a child says "OW", that usually indicates that something is hurting.
The OP is more than likely correct in that this nanny is probably not "on the books" as is very, very common in this country. How clueless are you, really? Did you miss the stats about the ten million or so illegals here in the U.S.? Did you miss their demonstrations last year? You're more concerned with this lawbreaking intruder into our country than you are about the innocent child being manhandled. Shame on you.
Yeah, 6:43, you have it right. Me, I'm Mexican and I've heard plenty of racist comments directed at me personally. But you know what, I might be from Mexico originally, but I am an American citizen who respects the right to free speech. If we start censoring comments, aren't we in danger of losing one of our basic rights here in America?
ReplyDelete1215 NO WAY are you in ANYWAY hispanic with that coloring. OMG, THAT is the " blatant lie" here.
ReplyDeleteOh please, Hispanics come in every shade! Did you know that Wonder Woman was Hispanic? And Catherine Bach- Daisy Duke? Granted only half, but still. I know plenty of vatas that answer to Guera; now you figure out why esai.

ReplyDeleteThe racial pendulum has swung back and forth, from minorities being inferior, to minorities having their place in the forefront and white America adopting the PC BS. Now it has swung to the middle where we can all drop the pretense and simply appreciate our differences and use proper identifying words like black, hispanic, asian, carribean, european, african, white, etc. There's no shame in being where you are from. Come on already.
ReplyDeleteAnd the truth is the truth, whether it's uncomfortable or not. Like above, some nannies get hired not knowing english - that's their business with the family. Maybe it's not ideal, but it is true. Great families hire awful nannies, horrible families hire awesome nannies, and everything in between. And people come in all colors and shades within every "race". If this latina above has gorgeous green eyes and fair skin, good for her. Or maybe not since people resent her for her uniqueness. Elizabeth Taylor had violet eyes - a freak of nature. Didn't hurt her any. I met an african woman in a class once whose skin was so black it was blue, and it was FLAWLESS. I was jealous.
Can we please get over this PC tip-toeing outrage bullshit and just talk like adults? By the way, PC terms are just as bad as racist terms as it assumes that the "others" need special treatment and consideration. They don't.
Thanks - a white chick from Queens, NY: the melting pot of the eastern seaboard.
Good Post, JMT
ReplyDeleteI agree. Hey, I'm from Mexico. People from Mexico are Mexicans. I just don't see the prob. Never did.
Thanks. Also there are more countries that lie south of our border besides Mexico. Carlos Mencia did a great bit about it. All of South and Meso America is not Mexico! lol Ask someone about their home country. You'll learn a lot. A client of mine was obviously South American but had a french name, so I asked. I got an awesome story about how his great, great, whatever grandfather came to Ecuador from France, started a cocoa plantation and became wildly rich selling to Mr. Hershey. The rest of the story involves my client not ending up rich. *sniff*
ReplyDeleteWe were all foreigners here at some point.
End of sermon.
um, 1149, you are way off. My cousin has a white mother and a mexican father. She has her moms red hair and fair skin. So, shush.
ReplyDeleteCarlos Mencia is a loser, a hack and a fraud!
ReplyDeleteMexico isn't in south america its in north america.
ReplyDeleteWhite Chick from Queens: heh, I don't know about gorgeous green eyes,,,they are the color of green olives. nice post btw :) you are right,I never had many Mexican girl-friends because of my looks, they were mostly all jealous. meh.
ReplyDeleteI have no comment on the whole Hispanic debate, but as for the little girls hair and her complaining and saying Ow and Ouch, that is OBVIOUSLY going to happen when you are brushing a little girls long hair. My hair is naturally curly and I've worn it long my whole life and I hated when my Mom did my hair when I was a kid. Also, I'm a nanny for a 2 yr old girl and her hair is thick and goes all the way to her waist. I have her from 7am, so most days doing her hair is my job and she hates having to sit still and have her hair combed and put in barrettes and elastics. Every day she says Ow and I can assure you Im not hurting her on purpose. The OP witnessed a very typical scene: little girl having her hair put up and hating every minute of it. No big deal.
ReplyDeleteno harm, no foul.
ReplyDeleteOP, you said the nanny was yelling at the child in spanish for not having a hair tie with her, then you said you don't speak spanish...what gives?
ReplyDeleteoh vey, you don't have to know how to speak spanish to know that someone is yelling in Spanish!
ReplyDeletetrue, but how would they know that the nanny was yelling at her for not having a hair tie? that doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeletei don't know- maybe that universal kind of pose people take when they are saying "where the hell is it"
ReplyDeleteOnly an idiot is that dense not to know what is going on. I mean isn't the fact that the nanny was holding a hairbrush a CLUE???
