Just a question.....

Received Thursday, March 15, 2007
I was wondering if someone could help me with this? I interviewed for a great position last week, and I was told I'd have an answer in a week. I called the parents, and the mother told me she didn't interview anyone else after me-her words were "anyone else was blah after you". She said after the interview she had a good feeling about me, and my credentials. Does this mean I may have the job?

  1. I would think so, just my opinion. In case you do, congrats!

  2. Duh! I think you have more than a "good" chance!

  3. I find this post so incredibly odd! Why are you asking us? Ask the mother! If you can't communicate well enough to ascertain if you do or don't have a job with this woman, or at least find out when she'll make a decision, it does not bode well for how the two of you will communicate when you're her nanny.

I hope that doesn't sound too harsh, I'm not trying to criticise you. I was a live-in nanny when I was 20 years old, I understand that a job search is an intimidating thing, especially for a young girl (and I get the feeling you're young). You need to remind yourself that your job is one of the most important things in your life and it is sooooo worth speaking up about.

    Good luck!

  4. did you put pressure on the woman to give you an answer? if so, she may have lied. Where are they now? Maybe the family is on Spring Break and traveling? I'd keep interviewing. Just in case.

  5. 10:33 I didn't think you were critizing me at all-she said she'd give me an answer within a week, and I didn't hear from her. I was just doing a follow-up with her, and I still didn't have an answer, so that's why I was asking.

10:47 See the above post. I didn't get an answer within a week, which is what I was told when I interviewed. Mom works in one state and Dad in the other, and he comes home every weekend. He is currently overseas on business and will be back next week. I didn't put any pressure on her at all-I didn't hear from her in a week, and did a follow up call, curious to know whether I got the job. She said she'd get back to me after her husband got home from overseas.

  6. look, as a nanny who's beenthere done that, you don't have the job. Really, you dont have the job even if they offer it to you. If you had the job you would have a contract. If they are making you wait, you need to ask some more questions. Feel free to ask her when you can expect an offer, and if she doesn't know ask her if there is any more information that you can provide to her to help her make her decision. Honestly, most mom's will do about anything to get the right nanny, including lying to you about the interviewing lest you go somewhere else. Don't give up on interviewing till you have the contract, seriously!! At the least it will give you leverage when you get your contract, and at the worst, you will still have an opportunity for getting a job.

  7. Maybe she hasn't been able to contact all your references. I would call your refs. and see if they have heard from her. They could give you an idea of how interested she is.
In the meantime, keep interviewing. GL

  8. If I interviewed a candidate that stood out and had any intention of hiring her, I certainly wouldn't leave her hanging. That is plain stupid! I would offer her the job right away! What kind of idiot needs her traveling salesman of a husband to authorize her nanny choice?

Men don't know how to choose nannies! If they were in charge, all nannies would be buxom Swedes.

  9. 7:21-She didn't ask for a resume or any references. That kind of surprised me.

  10. 6:46-I am well aware of contracts. I'm also well aware of how the business works.

You seem like a stressed person, judging by the overall tone of your post, and the tone of voice you would use if we were having a conversation. Perhaps you are hostile....

  12. I am sorry to say that I don't think you got the job but hopefully you'll post again and let everyone know. Good Luck.

  13. The mother's comments sound great but you don't have the job unless you know your starting date.

I have known people who "loved" me at the interview but then I've never heard from them again.... Things happen... Be careful!

  14. I know what you really want is some reassurance that you have the position because you haven't gotten a firm job offer, but sorry, it sounds very iffy to me.

  15. op this is 6:46

no, lol, I am not hostile, I really was just trying to protect you from false hopes...I have had a sold offer from a family, I had even given notice at my old position, and they rescinded the offer. I really wish I could be positive and tell you to start packing, but realisticly that is not, well, realistic! Now that you say that you 'understand contracts' and you 'are well aware of how the business works' then I join previous posterd in questioning why you posted this. Really, warm and fuzzy is not the tone of this blog....lol, rather the other way, I should think!

PS, if you start a food fight you'd better be ready to deal with the consequences!!!!

  17. Hi OP,
Did you ever get the job? Did the employer ever contact you either way or just leave you hanging?
