Jodi's Gym in NY, NY

Received Wednesday, November 29, 2006
Gym class that ends at 11:00 on Wednesday. Child (girl) is dirty blonde with short hair and navy Maclaren stroller, about two years old. Nanny is dark olive skin with short hair. Nanny grabbed the child and threw her in stroller with angry force. If I see this again I will report this to management.

  1. why would you wait until next time? if this was your child would you want someone else to wait? if this is what happens in public think of what happens in private. report this a.s.a.p.

  2. Why is it that people like you always see these types of things? Why aren't these poor little kids lucky enough to have someone who will actually DO something about it witness these situations? Get it together and report the situation to cps for cryin' outloud!!!

  3. I agree too many people who witeness something like this happening wait until it's too late or something even worse happens. If I were you I'd act now and tell the gym's managment.

  4. Wow. Hypocritical much?????
The great majority of people would do nothing. That means not even take the time to type what they saw on an anonymous board.

Don't be so judgemental. The truth is no one gets involved anymore.

    Quit judging.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I feel terribly that I did not say anything. It all happened so fast.

    ReplyDelete
  6. well I will be honest and say you did more than most people. If you walk away and do nothing, then no one gets to pass judgement on you.

Most people pretend they don't see things at all.

That is how they sleep at night.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ask the managment to give your phone # to the mom and to tell her you have something you would like to tell her.

    ReplyDelete
  8. ^^ GOOD THINKING!!!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I have to agree. It isn't the right thing, but most people look the other way. That is a fact. Then someone actually finds an anonymous way to reference something and so many of you want to throw stones at them.
Ask anyone who works with children-most people look the other way.
So thank you to the person who at least did this! This does something. This post can be emailed to other mothers. It can be emailed to Jody's gym.

  10. I think how I acted it would depend entirely on what "angry force" was, and if I thought the nanny (or mom) was out of line.

I have certainly thrown my own misbehaving kids into strollers with "angry force."

    ReplyDelete
  11. so your nanny would assume that it is okay to respond out of anger to your children. Didn't anyone ever tell you that disciplining out of anger is the hallmark of an ignorant parent?

    ReplyDelete
  12. My nanny was permitted to spank my children. Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  13. L-
    I wouldn't boast about that.
    You sound like an imbecile.
I don't know a solitary person that strikes their children and the thought of allowing a nanny to strike-spank-hit your child completely eludes me. By chance that is standard among your set, by amongst my coterie; it just isn't done.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Linad, you really don`t know anyone who strikes their children? You should meet me and my friends. No, nevermind -- you wouldn`t like us. At all. And we probably wouldn`t like you, because most of us don`t care to be around people who call us imbeciles.

I hit my kids when they are in dangerous situations. Years ago, when I had a nanny, she came home and told me she had spanked my 5-year old son when he ran in front of a car. I told her she did the right thing.

I think of that, whenever I read the stories on "I Saw Your Nanny." Oh, everyone would have been ALL OVER my nanny, if this site had existed back then -- but I was grateful she did what she did, and we were lucky to have her working for us.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Linda, you would not like our circle of friends either..I myself am a nanny who also has been given permission to spank my charges..a swat on the butt IS NOT Abuse..trying to reason with a two year old is absurd!! The age of reason is 8..that's just about when I stopped spanking my son! Have you seen how children behave these days. Tell me you have not seen little toddlers in the store..screaming NO at their parents, having wild, crazy tempertantrums, smacking at mom's face!!! Children are out of control these days and these are NOT the children that get spanked..these are the one's that you can here mommy & daddy saying"if you do that AGAIN..you'll get a time out". Are you kidding me? Again? My parents only told us once..we were not beat but we were spanked. We grew up well and we know how to function in society. We can keep a job because we have respect for authority. Our society has more kids in Juvenile hall than ever..do you know when this all started??? When Uncle Sam introduced the words"Corpral Punishment" to our nation and people like you, anxious to get on the" PC" wagon just because it is the IN thing to do, ran with it....When mom's left the home for a career and parents were forced to stop spanking!!! Have you heard how kids talk these days? Foul..foul..foul. A swat on the butt and a bar of dove will stop that right away!I have never "struck" a child in anger. I have spanked my children and will continue to do so and whenI am out in public watching absurd scenes unfold ....I am greatful to the strong and wonderful hands that swatted my butt as a child, that taught me how to raise the fabulous and respectful children that I have!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Linda,so I suppose you use words like imbecile and such when verbally abusing ..oops..sorry..punishing your child..your true colors are showing! What method do you use? Guilt.."mommy does not like that?""It makes mommy sad when you do that"Why don't you tell us how you would handle it if your 2 year old reached for the hot stove or was doing something potentially dangerous? Remember..these are 2 & 3 year olds not 10 yr olds!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't abuse my children, physically or emotionally. You certainly have warped ideas about parenthood. And the argument that one must spank or hit a child to prevent the child from running in the road or placing their hand on a burned is LUDICROUS.

I've nothing more to say to you on this subject. I give your family another three or four generations until you evolve past the ridiculous notion that it is essential to cause hurt to a child to teach the child!

    ReplyDelete
  18. My children 8,8, and 5 are exceptionally well behaved and they have never been spanked. Or slapped! You can be strict with your children and teach them right from wrong by being a good behavior example, providing appropriate supervision and enforcing your rules consistently.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Linda..chill you are awfully defensive. I hope you have more patience with you little one's than you do with a BLOGGER THAT SIMPLY DISAGREES WITH YOU.SEEMS AWFULLY EASY TO GET A RISE OUT OF YOU!Maybe some medatation might ease your angst. This is just a blog!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh, Linda, what makes you so righteously sure that three or four generations from now, my great-grandkids won`t be spanking their offspring, too? If I`m an "imbecile," then maybe my genes should just die out.

When people tell me they think I`m "abusing" my kids, I always say, just go right ahead and report me. Funny, no one ever has. I`d like to see someone convicted of child abuse for spanking a kid who runs in the street.

Some of you have zero tolerance for people who spank -- fine, that`s your opinion. It`s possible to raise a healthy kid without ever spanking, but I choose to spank, just as I chose to drink wine while pregnant, feed my kids junk food sometimes, and leave them with a nanny. As far as know, there`s no law against any of that, and you can all go right ahead and claim the moral high ground. Doesn`t it make you all feel superior to know "imbeciles" like me? Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  21. there are not possibly that many kids charging out into the streets.
that argument is played out. how do you teach your kids not to jump off of buildings?

    ReplyDelete
  22. wait- an abusive wino is proudly commentating on the blog? i thought this website was geared towards parents who cared about their kids.

    ReplyDelete
  23. while not drinking alcohol is best, moderate, occasional drinking after the first trimester is not recommended but usually okayed by doctors.
i chose not to drink but i don't think we should judge too harshly.
choosing to drink wine while pregnant does not make a person a wino. spanking does not make a parent abusive.
while i believe that it is better to use alternate methods i can understand using spanking as a last resort. can someone please explain to me what is so wrong with spanking instead of just stating that it is?
i don't believe that it leads children to be violent (this is spanking not beating or abusing a child) since many parents i know were spanked as a child and are actually very against it.
in fact i barely remember the spankings i recieved as a child though i'm sure they were effective at the time. i more distinctly remember being bored and not paying attention to lectures and i remember crying after my mother guilt-tripped me about how it was all her fault i was doing whatever i was doing and that she was a bad mother.
all in all most of my friends don't really have bad memories about spankings. looking back many of us preferred it since it was over rather quickly (though we would never admit that at the time).
sometimes i think society coddles children too much nowadays. i think we have made great advancements with enriching the lives of our children and yet we have made things worse too. i remember reading a story in the paper several years ago about children who were given failing grades because *gasp* they didn't do their work and then the parents banded together and said that this was causing their children to have low self-esteem and GOT THE GRADES CHANGED!!! what kind of a world are we creating for our kids?
i'm not saying that we go back to the days where misbehaving meant being bullwhipped in the barnyard but come on people!!! teach you children some decent values and make them accountable for their actions.

    ReplyDelete
  24. There is a difference between spanking and abuse.

    ReplyDelete
  25. teaching your children values has NOTHING to do with spanking them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. "Abusive wino?" Hee hee, love it. I came to this site for the nanny insight, but I stay for the silly hyperbole.

If a rare swat on the butt in dangerous situatons is abuse, then the jails are going to full of people like me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. l-
are you a ninja? fire swallower? how are your children in that many dangerous situations?
I agree with the other poster. There are many other way to accomplish teaching your children and resorting to hitting is less than stellar.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I didn`t "resort" to hitting them. I made a conscious choice to hit them in certain situations, and I do not regret it.

I`m sorry you think my choices are "less than stellar," but fortunately, I don`t answer to you.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Okay, I'm not a huge fan of any physical abuse, but I do however realize that there are certain situations where it is called for. I will never lay a harsh hand on a child, but I don't think poorly of those who choose to. The thing that is bewildering me in these comments is the mother who drank wine while pregnant. You are telling me that for 9 months you could not restrain yourself from an alcoholic beverage for the benefit of your unborn child? Nobody knows the true side effect of even that one glass of wine you chose to have. I wouldn't be surprised if your child is ADD, ADHD, Autistic, etc....all because of your ignorance and lack of responsibility to a poor innocent fetus. That is pure stupidity. You were willing to risk the life of a child so that you could enjoy a glass of wine. 9 MONTHS! That's all! In the whole scheme of life you only needed to wait 9 months before having a drink. Shame on you.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Shame on me for drinking my few glasses wine? And that drinking wine causes autism and ADD??? Now I`ve heard everything.

Yeah, there ought to be a law against people like me -- women who drink wine while pregnant should be locked up, too. Yeah, right.

(I know excessive drinking and fetal alcohol syndrome are serious problems, but that`s not what I`m talking about here, so pardon me for laughing my ass off.)

    ReplyDelete
  31. l,
you sound like you have a problem.
just curious- do you feel more like spanking your kids when your buzz has worn off?

    ReplyDelete
  32. You bet -- when I get one of those "pregnant hangovers," I feel like breaking the little buggers` bones.

Seriously, what if I were a drunken child abuser? What purpose does insulting me anonymously on a blog serve? Sure, it`s entertaining (which is what keeps me coming back here), but if someone really has a problem, why would you think that taunting them and calling them names would ever get them to recognize that and stop?

    ReplyDelete
  33. It seems to me that you, L recklessly suggested that drinking while pregant was fine, dandy & wonderful.

    It isn't.

Those who drink while pregnant are often hesisant to discuss this with their pediatricians later on when their children are suffering from that enormous combination of hard to diagnose conditions that suggest fetal alcohol effect. (Not syndrome).

Do you drink alone when you feel angry or sad?

Does your drinking ever make you late for school or work?

Does your drinking worry your family or friends?

Do you ever drink after telling yourself you won't?

Do you ever forget what you did while you were drinking?

Do you ever get headaches or have hangovers after drinking?

Have you started hanging out with heavy drinking friends?

Do your friends use less alcohol than you do?

Have you ever been in trouble because of your drinking?

Do you ever borrow money or go without things in order to buy alcohol?

    Is drinking hurting your reputation?

Do you feel a sense of power when drinking?

Do you ever drink until your supply is gone?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for caring, presuming you do and are not being sarcastic -- no to all of the above. Well, except for that last "supply" question, since our entire "supply" around the house is usually just a bottle of wine or two.

All three of our kids (none of them babies anymore) are fine (no physical problems), and I repeat: I do not think that there`s anything wrong with drinking a few glasses of wine or beer while pregnant, nor did my obstetrician -- nor, to get back to the subject of this post, do I think there`s anything wrong with swatting an errant kid on the bottom or using "angry force" to get him/her into a stroller.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Reading this blog made me furious! Why is that "spanking a child " and the word"abuse" are even in the same paragraph? What is wrong with so many of you?????If I thought you could stomache it I'd tell you what abuse is!!! I wish all kids that are "Abused" were only subjected to a firm swat on the butt! You need to get yourselves off your soapboxes and think about it for a minute! You are attacking people who choose a different method of discipline when there are real abusers out there beating kids with belts til' they can't walk! Punching kids in the face and burning them with cigarettes! Get it together and get your heads out of your as#$s!! Big difference between abuse and a spanking!! Stop blending in like cattle!!You have a backbone...use it! Stop listening to everything you here and think for yourselves!!!You all sound like you just came from the same seminar and you all sound softminded..wish I was a salesperson in your area..I'd be rich!! Linda..you rock!!! Good for you for knowing your self and doing what's right for you and not everybody else!I like chic's who can think on their own!! Your family is lucky to have you!!! Just like I tell my son.."why try so hard to blend in when you were born to stand out!" The rest of you...well..just be happy to follow along..you'll end up falling off the cliff with the rest of the Lemmings!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Props to the last poster. Whatever imaginary land where kids DONT test their parents' limits and patience is not one IVE ever visited. Some kids do great being lemmings and respond ONLY to verbal requests from Ms poppins. "yes, mummy, whatever you say". Puh-lease. OTHER kids only respond to a quick smack upside whatever is available. That decision and practice of which is ENTIRELY up to the judgement of the parent, and to permit such reality checks to caregivers.

And get over yourselves people. You can HAVE an occasional glass of wine when pregnant-our ancestors have been doing it for centuries. Dont have SEVEN each day, but a small glass, maybe on weekends, sure. No ones getting fetal alchohol syndrome from that. OR autism, etc. Every one of our mothers were told smoking and martinis were their special little helpers, and MOST of us turned out ok. Well, from the lack of brain cells on this board I would question that.... Just Use a little common sense-if YOU can feel it, chances are the baby does to, so geez, exercise a little caution and youll be FINE.

And if youre precious puritan genes cant handle THAT amount of testing, maybe they SHOULD die out.

    ReplyDelete
  37. This is just about the craziest and yet most entertaining website I have come across. You all are just too funny. I'm not sure of the age range of everyone, but I am sure I am probably youngest person to post. I'm not totally for sure, so please don't jump all over my butt if I'm wrong. Anyway, I just wanted to say something about this whole spanking thing. Seriously, what is the big deal? I am still in High school. And I could probably pin-point every kid that wasn't spanked or had one of those moms who...(actually, I'll just stop there because I don't want to sound like I am stereotyping anyone) They tend not to have character or a backbone. They're also kind of nerdy. I know a lot of you moms say that you raised great kids without using spanking as a form of punishment, but your their mom, you don't notice that most of the time they turn out to be socially retarded. But a lot of the time the turn out to not have any respect for their authorities. Someone made a god point about so many kids being i Juvenile hall and not being able to hold a job, it's so true!! Kids are disgustingly rude and disrespectful these days, and believe me, a "good talking to" will not do the trick. I don't know how to explain what I 'm trying to say. But, I remember this one time, I was about 14 years old I told my mom to "shut up you f-ing bi**h" and my dad slapped me across my face and told me to "Never speak to his wife like that again" And you know what, I never did. However, I have a younger brother who just turned 15. And he has got a foul mouth. He is always telling my mom to F*** off, or shut the hell up, just awful things like that. And my parents do nothing except tell him that they do not appreciate being talked to like that. Does he stop? No. Does he ever apologize? No. Now he just knows how to minipulate them, because he is such an unpleasant child to be around whenever he is being "nice", my parents will give him whatever he wants because it's easier to do that than deal with the real problem-his nasty behavior! I am so appalled at my parents new way of parenting. He is just learning to be a user, manipulator, and an irresponsible person to society. And his teachers are even worse. My dad is a english teacher at my high school and he is the only teacher there that isn't a liberal. I'm just rambling now, I'm not even making any sense. Anyway, there is nothing wrong choosing to spank your child. I 'm actually laughing thinking about all the time my parents attempted to try and spank us kids. And when they actually did succeed, it didn't even hurt!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kudos to the teenager above!!! Thank you for sharing and for honesty when it comes to your generation! You will do just fine out there in the big world!!!! I am glad that it is people like you that will be shaping the futyre when I am picking out a retirement home!!!! There's still hope!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. listen up, you don't have to pinch, slap, hit, spank or beat your child to raise a good kid. you can even have a strict home without resulting to hurting your children to "teach" them right from wrong.
    really!
and i agree that it is an evolution type thing. as people evolve, they stop doing barbaric things. like hitting their children. so as soon as all you spankers catch up, you will have evolved!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Again..abuse and spanking...not the same..and to the idiot poster above..somebody should spank you!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Barbaric things like spanking your children" To the poster above..You need to get a grip on reality. Do you even have kids? I doubt it ! You are one of those robots who never questions anything..you beleive if it is in the paper it MUST be true!!!Spanking your child is NOT abuse!! Beating your child is! I love how you lump both of those words into the same category! You are pathetic! Why don't you take a drive down to your local CPS and take a look at some children that have been abused you freakin moron..abused..hit with a belt until they are black-n-blue,broken bones and burn marks...abused NOT spanked ! Just because you choose a different way of life does not mean that EVERYONE else's way is wrong! You are sad!!Then again..you beleive in evolution so, I should not be surprised!! Find God..maybe you'll realize it is his job to judge..NOT YOURS!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think she lumped both of those things in the same category because both of them are unneccesary. Your need to get physical with your child is scary!

    ReplyDelete
  43. someone should spank me?
are you talking about the deviant subculture of S&M? Where people are spanked as punishment for disobeying their masters?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hmmmm.....I believe in both evolution AND spanking. I didn`t think they were mutually exclusive.

But I don`t think we spankers will "evolve away." I think kids of spankers are more likely to grow up thinking a swat on the bottom isn`t abuse --- just as kids who really are abused grow up to be abusers, and kids who are never spanked grow up looking askance at those of us who choose to spank.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I might be going out on a limb here, but I'm willing to bet that, almost to a person, you are caucasian(European American)or mostly caucasian and of moderate to higher level of education.

Probably most of you are midle income and of the white collar variety.

Not that there's anything wrong with your demographics.

That being said, I live in a predominately African American neighborhood, bordering on one side a mostly Asian Immigrant neighborhood, and the other side a fiarly well-to-do "White" (well, their mostly pink)neighborhood. My children live with their mother in a predominately "white" city for most of the year.

When my kids were younger, and would act up, I kept them in line with a simple phrase "Your in (CITY) now, I can spank you and no one will do a thing about it."

And every time EVERY SINGLE TIME there was somebody else around who would chime in agreement. Usually, they'd add something to the conversation too.

Carlos Mencia had a skit about how different ethnic groups discipline their kids, and "whites" were a bunch of spoiled kids.

I don't know who said it, but you're absolutly right. You don't reason with 2 year olds, you distract and replace. Just like politics. This kid getting tossed into the stroller is something to report, maybe not to CPS but to the manager, and here, where hopefully the parents will see it and act accordingly.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i was with you until the carlos mencia comment. you're single, you sound hot.

    LES, DWF here.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Are you suggesting that Caucasians(European American) with moderate to higher levels of education who are middle income with white collar jobs don`t tend to spank?

I haven`t found that to be true, in my personal experience.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Just my observations.

Speaking of observations, If Carlos Mencia were around about a hundred years ago, he could make pretty much the exact same jokes and social commentary. Only he'd be Irish and not hispanic.

    btw, to
    LES, DWF

    Thanks,

if you're in the SF Bay Area, we could discuss spankings a little less impersonally...

    ReplyDelete
  49. LES= lower east side (of NYC)

  50. Carlos Mencia speaks the truth. You just can't handle it! I'd guess you are either Mexican or one of those PC bandwagon types!!!

    Mexican
    not Hispanic
    not Latino
    not Spanish

It's a great saying don't you think!I see this bumper sticker all over the area I live in which by the way is predominently Mexican..I love that true Mexicans are proud of their heritage and not lumping themselves into an absurd PC group!!! And maybe..just maybe if you'd get your head out of your As@! you would not have to solicit dates on a nanny website!!!
Signed an Irish woman who married a Mexican!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Vatos Locos Forver,
but Carlos Mencia is a no talent, unfunny Hack.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Whats wrong. alittle to real for you!!! Nice spelling BTW... unfunny hack my you know what! Carlos Mencia is simply to truthful for you..We bow down to every ethnic group except the Caucasians in this country!!And getting back to what this site is dedicated to...have you seen how Mexicans treat their children out in public???? They pull hair, pull ears..they scream across the store at them..smack them in the face and then let them run around opening packages and playing with toys that they have NO intention of buying!!I can't imagine how they treat kids behind closed doors!! So, you want to talk race??? Let's talk race!!Affirmative action and pc people like you make me ill!!!And for all of you who are going to attack me for my remark about mexicans and other ethnic backgrounds...this site..this particular blog has already made jabs at the Europeans (With white ancestry)and the Irish...where are all the PC people now? Why arent you getting on their cases? I noticed that if you talk about Blacks or Mexicans you get your ass chewd out..where are all the people defending the whites? Oh sorry that's not PC is it?!!! You may not like what I have said here but it is TRUE!! If I were to stand in the middle of Kmart and smack my child in the face and pull her hair..I'd be accosted by almost every passerby..If my Mexican mother in law were to do the same thing..only yellnig in Spanish no would say..shi@3#! I have witnessed this 1st hand!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Carlos Rocks.. Saw him live..he really tells it like it is!!!!Sorry if you are to fragile to handle the truth but he hits the nail right on the head!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. You are crazy and full of hate. I don't care about your ethnicity, if you mistreat a child while I am around; you will hear about it then and there and loud and clear.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Carlos Mencia should run for Prez!!! He'd get my vote!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. are you a registered voter?

    ReplyDelete
  57. So, you avoided the subject. Are you telling me you don't see the same thing I've seen most public stores?? You think I am full of hate but I am simply stating facts! Shop in any Bay Area, Ca. public store.... you'd be busy with your loud- n- clear all damn day!!! And 3 guesses who you'd be yelling at!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. you obviously just posted the last 4 comments. are you talking to yourself? you don't make sense. don't you have a carlos mencia tour bus you can go throw yourself underneath?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Do you live in a predominently white area? Well how about joining the rest of us here living in reality. If we deported all the idiots abusing kids in public stores, our population problems would end and so would our ilegal immigrant situation!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. See..when faced with facts you get defensive and run the only direction you know!!Coward..why don't you talk the talk?? Let's hear it.You have nothing to say but Blahhh..Blahh..Blahh because your opinions are not yours but what you have heard others say!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. NP- I don't see anything worth responding to here. Idiot? Coward?
You are such a racist. You do get that Carlos Mencia is from Mexico, right? You do get that?

Instead of just posting smatter, why not report some of the abuse you claim is so rampant wherever the hell it is you live?? And before you call someone a coward, you might want to think about signing your disgusting posts with your name!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Why? Why Post a name. So you can make idle threats? Should not matter who is offending you...it is what you have to say that matters! Obviously you have nothing to say! Oh. BTW.it's okay for you to call us Vatos Locos..but when I do it in English you critisize..thank you for stressing my point even more!!!Wait until someone else gives you an opinion then you can try and catch up with these postings!! and yes..Carlos is a mexican..this is why I love him!!

  64. okay....
As the poster of the Mencia comment let me clarify.

1.> Mr. Mencia was born in Honduras, not Mexico. He moved to America, to become an American. AMERICAN. Quit adopting him.

Latin and Hispanic are ethnic terms usually used to describe people. Akin to Southern, Eastern European, African American. I can barely tell the difference between Portuguese and Spanish, now you want me to tell which dialect of Spanish that little mami is cursing out someone's kid in? Get real.

2.> to an earlier poster: Are you Irish, as in from the country, or of Irish descent, like the rest of the Americans? Did you marry a Mexican, or Mexican-American?

As much as I despise the right-wing nutjob super-patriots, I believe in using correct terminology. Your ancestors came here to be American and so that you could be too. You want to be Irish, go. There's a reason they came here, and still come here.

3.> The Irish analogy was meant as an observation, good or bad is up to you. There are parallels but this really isn't the place to describe them. I meant it as a compliment, but geez.

I recommend reading the following books -

"How the Irish Became White" (in America)
    By Noel Ignatiev,
    ISBN: 0-41591825-1

    and

    "The Mismeasure of Man"
    by Stephen Jay Gould
    ISBN: 0393314251

Here's the Wikipedia on Gould and his book.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Jay_Gould
    and
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mismeasure_of_Man

3.> What our ancestors did when they were pregnant and rearing children would get them locked up today. Thousands of years of filth and ignorance in Europe in your lineage and you think a glass or two of wine is going to ruin your child for life? C'mon! And don't get me started on other cultures.

Speaking (writing?) of disgusting history, watch Gangs of New York, not for the story, but for the glimpses of an ugly part of our history. America today is just a couple generations from that time.

We've gone completely off the rails here, people. This blog is for people who see nannies doing things they find disturbing, and think that the parents of these kids should know about it. We're not a lynch mob, nor are we anything like the La Leche league where we can call on our network to have a "nanny - in" or something when we see something objectionable or disturbing. So please quit jumping on the original poster, unless you're asking for more detail.

Finally, if I'm ever in the LES of NYC, how would get in touch with you? I got a friend in advertising that keeps trying to get me to move.

  65. I can almost visualize you. CA MALE poster. Tuesday afternoons, I love to sneak away to Mayday books and lose myself. I have a profile on Match.com

  66. Born and raised in Galway,Ireland. Moved to the USA in 1992,became US citizen in 1993. My husband was born & raised in Colima, Mexico. He became a citizen in 1998. You want correct terminology..how about "Abolishionist". I am shocked that you would reccomend a book by a man determined to abolish certain races!!!! He was a Marxist and you can keep the books!! Now your comments make sense!! Please ... make the move to NYC..we don't need people like you in Ca!! BTW It's okay for you to solicit dates on this site but not okay for the rest of us to discuss politics???? I'll buy your plane ticket if it will keep you from voting here ever again!!!!!!!!!!

  67. This is not a dating service!!! Puleez!!!

  68. I'm waiting to see if LES hooks up or not!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Wait, are LES and the Carlos Mencia fan a decoy to take the heat off the spanking wino? I read this whole thing from start to fiction and I am dizzy.

    ReplyDelete
  70. "Abolishionist" -- who doesn't want an end to slavery?

Well, congratulations for both of you for becoming Americans. Look into the San Patricios during the Mexican American war.

As entitled as you are to your opinion of people and things, thanks to the guarantees of our country and in the interests of the free flowing exchange of ideas through discourse.

I will type this only once.

    do

    not

    EVER

    disrespect

    Dr. Gould.

You can disagree with him all you wish, you can even disagree with the Theories he put forth. Punctuated Equilibrium can be seen as a kind of a cop-out by those who profess either gradualism or catastrophism. I'd even be happy to disagree and discuss other topics of his writings.

    But

You are not worthy to lick his shoes, and I'm talking about the ones his corpse is currently wearing.

His output alone is noteworthy. An essay every month for Scientific American for over 20 years. I'm not talking about "Oh, Jennifer Aniston was dumped by Brad, and that's not very nice" kind either. He wrote about some of the most obscure, abstruse facets of life and its wonders and mysteries and how we as humans and as cultures have perceived it. He knew more about Baseball than practically any other human. He was in most of the "History of Baseball" series put out by PBS.

Wait, they're all into that book-learnin' so maybe I shouldn't bring them up.

"I am shocked that you would recommend a book by a man determined to abolish certain races!!!! "

How dare you imply Dr. Gould was anything like that. The whole reason he wrote that book and those essays were to specifically highlight the folly of terms like race.

There is no scientific correlation to the term "Race", unless you want to discuss "breed", which, like dogs who are genetically similar, can interbreed and have fertile offspring, unlike hybrids like ligers or mules, so what would you call it? Race is simply a holdover from the Eugenics movement and all that crap from our collective pasts that would be better if we all just recognized it for the ignorance it was, and move on.

Ethnicity is far more accurate, as it covers cultural and social distinctions, in addition to any arbitrary physical distinctions.

Again, I mentioned the Mexico/Ireland reference as a compliment. Both are hardworking immigrants with cultural, linguistic, and religious differences from the locals and were fleeing a less-than-ideal country when they came here. You can use the past or the present tense. The Biggest difference is people think Irish accents are cool. That and there's a lot less diversity in the Irish gene pool, hence the regressive traits that show, like red hair, and pale skin.

Oh, and both have racists in their midst who don't like it when outsiders bring that up.

If you really want to, I can give you a PayPal account and you give me the $$ for me to go to NYC. I'd even promise not to ever post on any thing you post to again.

btw, LES, NYC I'm more of a CL fan...

  71. I`m the "spanking wino," and I`m staying out of this, because I`m of white Eastern European heritage, I`m not looking for a date, nor do I have a strong opinion, one way or the other, about Carlos Mencia.

(And the fascination with which I keep following this thread clearly shows I have too much time on my hands.)

  72. Okay... so I can see you throw names around but really don't know what the hell you are talking about!! I was not refering to Gould, may he RIP... I was refering to Ignatiev!!! You know, you need to chill and get your facts straight before you go around telling people they are not worthy of someone! Now maybe you should go read the books that you obviously googled info about but have yet to read yourself! If you had...you would have known which author and book I was refering to!!!BTW when Gould passed in 1992 I had 3 of his books on my shelves! Though I don't agree with him and his theories of Evolution I respect him as an author!! I do however...think you are an idiot!!!! This is my last post. If I thought you truly read those books and were educated on the subject ,I would continue on with this game..simply to see where it leads, however, you ARE NOT WORTHY of MY time!!!! You are sad and a great con artist!!!! Have fun in NYC..beware of PC..LES girl..if she's hooking up with you online she's probably hooking up with Everyone!!!

  73. Maybe you need a change? NYC is cold this time of year.Lets warm up together.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think the poster talking about Marxsism ws referring to Noel Ingatiev .(not your Gould). I am a big fan and he was a Harvard Bound student&professor who was also an abolishionist and marxist!. He published several books that caused much controversy!

  75. CL? One of the reasons for my 2001 divorce had to do with CL (that and my ex spouse's search for the perfect blumpkin).
So I have to pass on anyone who uses CL for "merrymaking".

    ReplyDelete
  76. What is CL???????

    ReplyDelete
  77. Whats a blumpkin?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Is a blumpkin a fat chick?

    ReplyDelete
  79. That leaves us with a bit of a conundrum, LES NYC, how to contact each other while maintaining a sense of privacy or anonymity.

    Looked up "Blumpkin"

    eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww

    ReplyDelete
  80. You two need to get lives..how sad..soliciting on this site! Please take it elsewhere..this is a nanny website not www.sexconnection.com. GEEZ!!
Those of us that actually use this site for reporting abusive or good nannies would like you two to leave!! Your ridiculous banter back and forth is inapropriate here!!Figure it out!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Actually, I think they`re kind of funny. If I hadn`t kept reading this thread, I might never have found out what a "blumpkin" was --not that I really needed to know.

Anyway, the site administrators can turn off comments at any point, if they see fit to do so. This is a comment-moderated site.

  82. hate to break it to you but sex is what got all of us into the whole parent thing.

remember: If your parents never had any children, neither would you.

besides - I'd rather be attracted to someone for their wit.

I looked and "merrymaking" isn't one of the selections on CL. I found the missed connections, the 4s (w4m,m4w,etc), strictly platonic and my favorite: Rants and Raves

  83. LES NYC & CA MALE will never happen!

    ReplyDelete
  84. I agree, LES NYC & CA male will never happen. What do they have in common? One loves Carlos Mencia. One hates him. I do have to say that CL is sketchy. Whether using CL to find childcare or a partner, ewwwwwwwwwwwww!

    ReplyDelete
  85. CA on CL:

it's great for barter and buying used stuff.

I only like Mr. Mencia because of his views on what makes America great and greatly stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Um, to the anonymous person who thinks that drinking an occasional glass of wine durring pregnancy could cause ADD or Autism, bull! I personally don't drink because of religious reasons, but have family who did. My sister drank wine occasionally. With both pregnanacies. Both kids are in top honors and the oldest very well may be an up and coming tennis star. So take your unbacked views and shove off!! Stupid A**HAT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oh, and sorry for the a**hat comment. Very rude of me. Bad week here. I don't usually swear. My son is 2.5 and is turning into a parrot.
    Again, sorry!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Jen..you need some valium honey!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. jen,i just read a post from you asking us to feel for you becuase you have lost a dear one yet here you are again not sounding sad but rather angry & bitter..calling names!!???

    ReplyDelete
  90. Jen doesn't really have kids. On one post, her child is one. Here he is 2.5. Jen is just a random unemployed person in Minnesota or something trying to make trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  91. 1217-um, posted here a while back. This is an old post of mine. Stopped back to see if I needed to apologize more. No more namecalling here. I wish a lot of others would too...

1218- um, my son is 2.5. I never said he was 1. I plan to reread my posts, see if I maybe talked about him when he was little. And why be judgemental? Unemployed? Huh? And why Minnesota? I live nowhere near there. Maybe some people pose as who they are not, guess that didn't cross my mind..but sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  92. seriously, 1218, where did I post that my son was 1? I reread my posts, and never once did I mis-state his age. I mentioned that I worked full time after maternity leave UNTIL he was 9mo. old. That was in 2004. I know I didn't win a popularity vote, but why blatenty lie about someone?
