Getting on the #8 bus line. Spanish speaking nanny who was growing impatient with the child she was caring for. The nanny grabbed the child under the arms and was holding the child stiffly. The child who was about 2 was struggling to get out of her tight grip. I thought the nanny pinched the child but cannot be sure. She did something and the child started crying. The nanny had a stroller with her. It was collapsed when she was waiting to get back on the bus. The stroller could identify the nanny as it had strolee written in script on it in some parts but the print of the fabric was very strange, like a sofa from 1980. Nanny didn't look so nice. Parents, I would advise you to double back on her and see how she treats your kid when she doesn't think she is being watched. She was quite conscious I was watching her. Glaring at her.

  1. A real "nanny" doesn't travel by bus. And she speaks English. Fluently.

  3. Lose the caps. And also, as a rule, we as adults should not tolerate children being pinched, poked or prodded. What does it teach ecxept to pinch, poke and prod the next person. (Harder).

  4. I would tend to say most nannies don't ride the bus, but babysitters might. Also, about the speaking English fluently? Where have you been? That is not always the case. We can't even shop in stores where all clerks know English anymore. Get real.

  5. 2 year olds don't need to get pinched or poked to start crying. Ever been around one? Oh that's right, that's the nanny's job.

  6. Nannies ride busses all the time. Sometimes, even the parents do. Not everyone has a car, especially not in larger metro areas. If they do, they often don't use it for local travel.

I realize this particular post is in the Los Angeles area, but our readers are from everywhere and it's certainly common in NYC, SF, and Chicago (to name places I've lived) to use public transit as the main source of local transportation.

  7. I live in a predominently Mexican area! I am constantly shocked to see parents ,while shopping, pull little girls by thier braids, pinch them or snag an ear really hard to get thier kids attention! They call them pinchy..which means Fu%^&*G and Gordie or Gorda which translates to fat and they allow them to run all over the store making huge messes and damaging merchandise they have no intention of buying!!!!!! I am told by my Mexican mother-in-law this is a cultural thing!! and that in the mexican culture it is perfectly acceptable and common to pinch a child or pull them by the ear to discipline them. shocking huh?

  8. If you have ever been around children, you know that things aren't always what they seem.

How does holding a child stiffly transfer over to causing them harm or putting them at danger? If she had a stroller, weren't her hands full and holding a child would make that more awkward...

And we can assume that she picked up the child because she didn't want to stroll behind a 2 year old in order to find her seat...or, because she didn't want the bus to move as the child walked by herself so she could avoid a serious accident.

Perhaps the child is prone to running off and the nanny would prefer to hold her stiffly, then to let her run around like a little crazy.

    This post is stupid.
