We continue to receive correspondence from persons identifying themselves as nannies demanding to know where the web site is to report "parents abusing their children" and "neglectful parents". Nannies are mandated reporters. The mandated reporter status requires a nanny to report to any appropriate authority, such as the police or Child Protective Services, any instance of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment on the part of the parents, her employers. In the event that a confidentiality agreement exists, said agreement is overridden by the "mandated reporter" status of the nanny. Specific statutes vary from state to state.

Jane Doe, is that why you did a new welcome message and recyled the old welcome message back to the beginning? Because the nannies are gunning for you?
ReplyDeleteGreat Resources for all mandated reporters, thanks. One thing I realized is there are a lot of people who DO NOT REALIZE they are mandated reporters. Thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteI was told by a social worker that EVERYONE is a mandated reporter. It's just that teachers, daycare workers, and doctors have a license that can be revoked if they fail to report
ReplyDeleteI LOOOOOVE that poster. Thanks for the resource. I spent five minutes trying to "find" the email link you said was buried so i could sent it to some coworkers. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI'd like it better if, out of 14 pictures of an adult and child, 13 of them weren't a dark skined adult and a white child.
ReplyDeleteto the poster above, take your liberal idiocy and go post your diabolic rhetoric on furushlimbaughinthebutt.com
ReplyDeleteYou are an idiot. That is a brilliant poster.
The poster is from The National Child Protection Authority which is located in Sri Lanka.
ReplyDeleteThe posters are printed in the three official languages of Sri Lanka, namely Sinhala, Tamil, and English. Presently, the posters are being distributed to schools and other relevant organizations in Sri Lanka. The posters are also exhibited in public places in different parts of Sri Lanka.
I'm going to agree that it's disturbing that most of the pictures are dark-skinned adults abusing light-skinned children. What exactly is this agency thinking here? I note there is a male-female balance in the poster. Are most children in Sri Lanka white, or what?
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? Are you seriously kidding me? Please tell me you are not feigning offense on the part of Sri Lankans everywhere. Oh hell.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least we know who the racists are around here.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess anon bloggers here are the "mandated reporters" to notify the proper authorities (or blog anonymously, whichever is easier) when they see a nanny plucking her eyebrows or eating ice cream, but nannies are the "mandated authorities" to notify the authorities in the event of ACTUAL as opposed to imagined, abuse?
what is the above person babbling about? I have seen the moderator time and again stress that incidents of abuse should be reported immediately to the authorities. Is most of this abuse? Or just nannies acting irresponsibly? These are warning signs for parents. Dial in. And settle down.
ReplyDeletewhat are you "Well, at least we know who the racists are around here" trying to say? Thought sounds half formed and incoherent. Who is the racist? The Sri Lankan government? I think the point is regardless of whether you are mandates or not, if you suspect actual abuse, look here are some numbers you can call for more information.
ReplyDeleteThere are countless instances here of "reporting" nannies because a child was seen crying, was made to play alone for almost 5 minutes, etc. But these are not reportable offenses.
ReplyDeleteNeither is it a reportable offense that parents abandon their chikdren to a hired hand for 60+ hours a week, never change a diaper for their own child, and do not personally play with, read to, or otherwise provide any opportunities for their child to learn other than making deposits into an appropriately chosen college fund account. (Tax deferred of course).
The only way this type of neglect would be reportable is if the nanny were willing to reveal her status as an illegal resident who is being paid off the books so the parental units can have more $ to deposit into the child's college fund and if she did, all that would happen is the parents would hire someone else cheap to enable them to neglect their parental responsibilities.
This is obviously NOT the place where you should report true instances of abuse. That is why the above post references links you can visit to help ascertain what IS abuse. In addition, on the main page, we suggest:

to find the hotline number to report incidents of abuse in your state.
Just a note on the skin colors ... Notice where the poster came from. I think most of us darker-skinned people get darker as we get older. I am three shades darker than my daughter. The poster is just telegraphing the age difference IMO.
