  1. Anybody else freaked that the babysitter had such easy access to a gun?!? Just me then? OK, I'll be moving along now.

  2. I'm confused as to why this unnamed woman is continually referred to as "the babysitter". If she's the sister of the children's mother, doesn't that make her...the aunt? Wouldn't the story be more accurate if it said. "The aunt, who was babysitting at the time, shot the bear...."?

  3. What difference does it make?? They live in a rural area and this caregiver/babysitter/nanny/aunt had a hunting license. I'm not a big fan of having guns in a house with children, but it's not like it was laying around loaded. I think she used great judgement in how she handled the whole thing. Lucky she knew what to do - the bear was about to break the door down.

  4. Original responder and city girl here-I wasn't criticizing, just sayin'. Heck, if a bear tried to break my door down I'd probably do something lame like offer him a picnic basket.

  5. To original responder: Then why don't you say that you would do something lame instead of focusing on the fact that she had access to a gun. She did the right thing, give her some credit and go take a self defense class or something so you would have a clue. Okay, moving along here.

  6. What the hell difference doesit matter if she had a license? Thank GOD they had a gun in the house, the bear would have probably killed them otherwise. This happens in mountainous areas. Im intersted that it only took a 7 mm to kill the bear. And give her major props for keeping her head and knowing what to do. Go auntie!

  7. Is it just me or doesn't it make rather good sense to have a nearby gun to access when one lives in an area populated by bear?
