One nanny bundled up in cream colored jacket that was almost knee length. She had a little girl named "Anna" with her in a light jacket. The girl complained multiple times she was cold. The nanny told her to go play and run around and she would warm up. The little girl had to go to the bathroom at one point and the nanny had been speaking to another nanny who was enroute to the bathroom. The nanny directed the little girl to go with the other nanny. The little girl was clearly uncomfortable but did so anyway. The little girl's nanny was not watching any other children. Parents, make sure if you pay someone to watch your children that they are not handing off responsibility to other people. And take a look at your nanny when she comes inside from being with your child. My nanny overdesses my child to ensure his warmth. A nanny who appears all to comfortable in her padded and lined jacket while her charge shivers- well it doesn't sit well with me.

  1. About leaving the girl to go with the other nanny without having other children to watch, just for plain lazyness, thats unaceptable but about the light jacket thing there might be another side of the story,my 4 year old HATES jackets, and its always a big struggle to get him into warm clothes,I bought even ones with his favorites characters on it, but it didnt work either so one day just out of frustation (and because it wasnt very cold) I let him go without a jacket, of course he got cold and he complained but I told him we weren't going to go back home because his sisters wanted to keep playing and it wasn't fair for them, so we stayed a little more. After a short while we went back home and he realized why jackets are important. I know some people are going to critize me and think that I am a horrible person but IT worked and now he knows that when I ask something it's for his own good.

  2. She should have taken the child home immediately if she was cold. Imagine how uncomfortable the little one was and I'm sure that she didn't enjoy her playtime.

  3. The nanny definitely should have taken her charge to the bathroom. The jacket may not have been her choice, if last year's warm jacket is too small, and the mom hasn't gotten a new one yet.

  4. Is this called-
"Make an Excuse for a Nanny" or "Find a way to blame the Mom"?
The children should be dressed as warmly as the nanny. Find a way or stay inside.

  5. Nobody is excusing the nanny or blaming the mom, it's just that you can't prejudge a bad nanny or mom just because the kid is not wearing warm clothes. There might be several reasons and one mom post hers already.

  7. I am a nanny who looks after a 3yr old who really does not like jackets, mittens etc, but i never force him to wear them,i just walk with it anyway, and when he complains about being cold i just take the jacket, mittens hat etc out of the bag. That i walk with just in case he starts feeling cold.

  8. I agree with the nanny watching the 3 ur old - I have two kids (4, 3) and if it's cold enough outside for a hat & warm jacket I bring it (and hold it for them) even if they do not want to put it on at first - being an adult I know that at some point they will want it!

  10. I agree w/ this. i watch a lil boy. hes a lil older then 2, but all his clothes r 2t. his clothes r too small on him. the parents know this but havent gotten him new stuff yet. as for his coat, its a spring jacket. anyway, the parents set up play dates for him so i have no choice but too take him out..

  11. Real Nannies Take the children shopping to get the children the clothing they need. "Sitters" can't be trusted with that responsibility.

  12. I didnt know Real Nannies spend their money on clothes for the child they watch. I thought this is the parents responsibilty. Hmm, I guess I need to find another p/t job so I have extra money to buy my 2 daughters the stuff they need and the little boy I watch.

  13. No, numnut- real nannies are permitted fiscal responsibility and take the children shopping with the parent's cash or credit cards. How stupid are you? Seriously???????? What do you make an hour- $6? You sound like a low rent hoochie nanny.

  16. My nanny uses my credit card all of the time. Of course she is smart. savy and trustworthy. The person who posted last as anonymous certainly does not make a case for any nannies. In fact of the nannies could pull you aside, I am guessing they would ask you to stop posting!

  17. Ok here is what I have to say some parents pick out all the childs clothes for that day. Nannies can say it is cold outside but in no way can they tell the parent how to dress the child. Then there are some parents that don't allow them to go home because they "want the child out so they don't sit at home all day". In this case I know of some nannies that take the child to libraries and bookstores as to try to keep the child warm and happy and so they will be close to a bathroom in case the child needs to go. As far as the letting the other nanny take the child to the bathroom there is no way to know if the child was just uncomfortable because she had to go to the bathroom. And not only that but you also don't know if she (the nanny) wasn't watching another child playing on the play ground that you could not see. Unless you asked that is. Please don't be so quick to judge as some day you might see a post about you on here when someone thinks your a bad nanny.

  21. 1202 says real nannies shop for children. I'm a real nanny whose boss loooves to shop for her children and would never, ever share that privilege with me. You think I'm kidding? You think there aren't other moms like that in the world? Give me a break. I tell mom when the kids' clothes are too small; I'll put them in the closet and not back in the dresser; but I don't do the shopping.

  22. Amelia,
I am a mother of three who loves shopping and can't wait for the next season to start again. However, with three children there is so much to buy-not everything is great fun to buy. Children always need shoes, jackets and uniforms. So my nanny ends up doing alot of purchasing for me. And I am a stay at home mom!
